Phalanx Warder
So most of you have seen my 30k Imperial Fists, 40k (loyalist) Soul Drinkers. As I close out my IF Legion, I am looking to a Traitor Legion as my next project, I am looking for your personal reflections and education on the finer points of the traitor legions that you are familiar with. I am not an effective list builder, I play for the fun of it. That said I am in this mainly for the fluff and Hobby. I have never gotten exited about the traitors but seeing some of the NL/WE/DG/IW projects on the forum I am compelled to give them a go! Balthamal
Welcome to the Dark Side!! The VIII Legion shall take your blood oath an- Oh yes right. Well for most people looking for inspiration the best advice I can offer is to read volumes 1-3 and devour everything written there about said Legion(s). Take in everything about them, their foundings, their traditions, their preferred methods of war, their colour schemes and variations, the battle they've fought, the models available for them and if anything jumps out at you, then go for it. For me, I went with the Night Lords because of: 1) Being a fan of the series by ADB 2) A total lack of character in the 40k codex for them 3) Awesome model potential and 4) Sevatar Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291847-traitor-legion-merits/#findComment-3705858 Share on other sites
Barabbas Sogalon
Personally I've always felt that the Traitor legions had the best colour schemes. I'm doing XIV Legion Loyalists, so I'm not true Traitor legion, but my favourite thing about the Death Guard fluff must be the chemical warfare part. Reyner
Since your previous loyalists were Imperial Fists I am inclined to say build some traitor Iron Warriors. But if you want traitors who are less of a mirror image to your Fists I would go with someone like the Sons of Horus or Word Bearers (I know of only 1 person making these!!) Have to admit that the NL look rather tasty! Personally I've always felt that the Traitor legions had the best colour schemes. I'm doing XIV Legion Loyalists, so I'm not true Traitor legion, but my favourite thing about the Death Guard fluff must be the chemical warfare part. Chem munitions I am liking and leaning towards a Legion in white! the DG are nasty! Since your previous loyalists were Imperial Fists I am inclined to say build some traitor Iron Warriors. I have made some IW and they were fun to paint: But those Gal Vorbak look amazing! Daemon2027
I would have a think about what sort of army you want. Do you want something really different from the Fists and Soul Drinkers. Then look for a legion that fits what you want. Some can do any sort of warfare, others are more specialist (but can still field all the normal stuff). I personally am into the World Eaters, everything about them is brutal. Mass infantry with chain axes, phychos in TDA, tanks, everything that's aim is to hit hard, loud, and leave bloody corpses. Also have one of the best booms as background (my opinion of course). Relict
For me, the choice was between the World Eaters and the Death Guards. The grittier aspects of warfare appeals to me. The World Eaters favor blitzkrieg-style attacks either from orbit or on the ground. The use of massed drop pods and heavy armor is a means to an end - delivering the killing strength of the Legion (namely, the Legionaries and their chainaxes) to the heart of the enemy resistance. Everything else is secondary. I find their style of warfare simple but effective. My personal company of World Eaters (see the WIP link in my signature), while incorporating the core XII Legion traits, fights like Iron Warriors with their heavy armor and Terminators. The Death Guard embodies the "slow and relentless" approach to warfare. If you are looking for a footslogging army that gives as good as it gets, then look no further. The Death Guard incorporate strong Terminator and Dreadnought elements, spiced up with a side of chemical warfare. Finally, both Legions have some of the most complete and beautiful range of models. Each has seen their Primarch (Angron/Mortarion), unique character (Khârn/Typhon), and special units (Rampagers, Red Butchers/Grave Wardens, Deathshroud) released. A full range of Legion-specific parts (shoulder pads, Contemptor Dreadnoughts, etc.) is available for both to add to the already appealing color schemes. AlphariusOmegon108
I would say: Go word bearers all the way! There aren't alot of people doing them, but they have lots of modelling and conversion potential! And of course don't forget! You can use chaos bits from 40k!!!! And damn: If you don't like those new Gal Vorbak models... you're weird!
