Gab
I've got a dilemma. I have a birthday coming up and hoping for a tank to add to my fledgling ECs, but which one? I guess I'd like to hear everyone's ideas on best performer for the money/points and how you'd configure the tank. Thanks in advance brothers. Olis
Are you looking for a regular sized tank or a superheavy? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291873-which-tank/#findComment-3706044 Share on other sites
Kilofix
For regular tank: The Spartan has a whole lot of utility. But the Archilles is also hard hitting. For super, I like all three: The Sicaran Venator. The Typhon. The Glaive. Russ Brother 92
If you're looking 'regular' sized tank (so MBT) - I'd go for either a Sicaran or Vindicator - both add massive firepower to a force they accompany in very different ways. If you're going super-heavy then I'd say a Spartan, Glaive or Typhon, again each of these is a massive force multiplier but in very different ways. Part of the answer will be in how you want the tank to perform in your force - do you want a spearhead to crush enemy weak spots? Do you want a trundling behemoth that will take a lot of hits and keep firing? Do you want a smaller, swifter vehicle that will keep pace with your advancing forces, be able to draw off enemy firepower and still successfuly move into the enemy ground? Do you want a transport, able to carry your big hitters, take the punishment that entails and keep on trucking to get them into combat? These are all the questions I'd ask myself prior to going for one particular tank - there is however one other question that always needs a firm answer -> Do you think it's cool? :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291873-which-tank/#findComment-3706072 Share on other sites
OneOfOneThousand
It depends on what you've already got in your 'fledgling' force if I'm honest. If you've painted all tacticals and the basics then I would go for a Reward, something like a Sicaran (which are awesome by the way) If you've painted some elite units, like Phoenix Terminators, you could get a Spartan to transport them in (with flare shield - standard issue) Budget is the main restriction for most so just look at what you can get for the money. After that, go for coolness factor as no doubt you will want it all sooner or later! Olis
Are you looking for a regular sized tank or a superheavy? Superheavy for sure! I really want to say Fell Glaive but it is quite specialised in it's use, what with the inch wide line of fire you have to draw all the way to your target. Haven't decided on hq or support squads either yet, but just love tanks! Reyner
The Sicaran is an awesome tank and I found mine very easy to build - now I have the pain of painting it for my Sons of Horus or Iron Warriors! Gab
The Sicaran is an awesome tank and I found mine very easy to build - now I have the pain of painting it for my Sons of Horus or Iron Warriors! I know what you mean. I haven't started building or painting yet and recently got book 2, and now I want to do salamanders or iron hands! No doubt I'll want to do fists when I get book 3. Doesn't help that I have several thousand points of Templars tempting me towards Sigismund. The Sicaran would look great in SoH or IW colours so you can't really go wrong. Balthamal
It comes down to what what look you want and also what you want from it in game. Sicarans are fantastic tanks and are straightforward to assemble. The main tank has excellent utility whilst the venator can be a monster against armour, especially with the changes to 7th. If you're thinking of taking any of the terminator options, or just want a secure transport for your block of troops, the Spartan is hard to ignore. Massive transport capacity and serious firepower to back it up, along with, crucially, 5 hull points. The MBTs have a great wide range of options so a lot here will boil down to what you like the look of but I recommend the Whirlwind Scorpius. It's devastating against power armour. For the super heavies, my vote goes to the Falchion just because I think the model is excellent Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291873-which-tank/#findComment-3706192 Share on other sites
badgermeister
i'd go with the spartan to deliver the CC orientated termies deep into battle in one complete piece ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291873-which-tank/#findComment-3706194 Share on other sites
Marshal Reinhard
If you want a battle tank you cannot go wrong with a sicaran. It's both got some really decent weaponry and if you ask me easily looks the best out of any tank in HH or 40k. Troop carrier? Spartan. 25 unit carrying capacity. Twice the las count of a normal LR. 'nuff said. Super Heavy? I'm biased towards the Glaive solely based on looks, but it's no slouch in performance either. One can do glorious things with the volkite carronade the and with the recent change to D-weapons it's looking less underarmed when compared to the Falchion. Falchion might still be the option you want to go for when you plan on hunting titans though. Comparatively, the fellblade doesn't bring anything 'unique' to the table, but is still an absolute beast compared to a mortal baneblade. Typhon is also a wonderful choice when you want a slightly smaller death dispenser. I don't actually know much about hte Cerberus. ImpiousSmart
It's borderline impossible to go wrong! I think I'd like a Fellblade for my EC's some time this year. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291873-which-tank/#findComment-3706393 Share on other sites
Marshal Loss
Out of the super heavy tanks, I would personally go for the Falchion. Brutal looking model and the rules make it extremely useful where other super heavies may be slightly more situational (especially the glaive) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291873-which-tank/#findComment-3706432 Share on other sites
Gab
I think I've narrowed it down to either Sicaran or a spartan, based purely upon coolness rather than anything else in particular. It helps that they both look absolutely beautiful in a brutal way! Sicaran for an MBT, Spartan for a troop carrier, and the Glaive for a really big superheavy - Typhon if you want to go for a superheavy that fits in your Lord of War slot at 2k. Glaives are actually really good at dealing with enemy superheavies - all you have to do is touch them with the Carronade's beam and they're taking 2-4 haywire hits. It's like a guaranteed explodes result every turn just from the number of hull points you can strip off superheavies, and no amount of cover or smoke launchers will help them. AlphariusOmegon108
You said you like the sicaran and spartan the most: You have pheonix termie's so: Spartan would be a very good choice for them! Maybe if you have some money left: buy 5 more pheonix termie's! Put them al with a preator with Termie armor and paragon blade inside the spartan! And there you have it: though cookie to crack! OneOfOneThousand
Yep, it's something else alright! As a man who has a Sicaran, a Sicaran Venator and a Spartan i'm now looking to invest in a super-heavy for my Lord of War slot. With no Corax for now I'm debating between a Fellblade and a Falchion to fill that - but edging towards the Fellblade. Just something about that tank screams amazing to me Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291873-which-tank/#findComment-3707663 Share on other sites
Molokai
The fellblade can't hurt a flare shielded spartan from the front, which, across a long table is where it's most likely to be hitting. Just saying. Go falchion. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291873-which-tank/#findComment-3707666 Share on other sites
OneOfOneThousand
You make a good point there - and with my main opponent bringing the IV legion anything anti-tank is likely to yield results! Falchion it is - now to convince my wife it's a good idea.... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/291873-which-tank/#findComment-3707677 Share on other sites
