Upcoming HH novels/audiobooks

So I guess this could be posted here or in the Black Library one, I chose here cause it seems to get a lot more traffic.

Anyway, basic purpose is to keep track of any upcoming HH novels, rumours on the content, expected release date, what posters think they'll be like and how they'll link to existing novels etc.

All the ones I've heard of are:

Damnation of Pythos - Shattered Legions, read a review/plot overview a week back but can't remember it in much detail. Same planet that Pandorax takes place on, although I do believe this book doesn't set up the events of Pandorax.

Master of Mankind - About the Emperor, but not from his POV

Nightfall - Night Lords, my theory is that it's the Night Lords arriving at Sotha.

The Crimson King - continuation of A Thousand Sons and various shorts I think

Unnamed Death Guard novel - Set between Scars and Vengeful Spirit

Legacies of Betrayal - March 19th 2015, with ADB, McNeill and Chris Wraight as the listed authors. Apparently the stories are the Fulgrim one with the cover art already shown, how Sevatar got his red hands and the 1st part of Allaxes from the SW pov.

Master of the First / The Long Night - No idea, March 19th 2015 as well apparently, Audio CD, Gav Thorpe and ADB listed authors.

Garro: Shield of Lies - January 8th 2015 - Garro, and obviously an Audio book.

Cybertenica - Rob Sanders, limited edition novella following on from Mechanicum

Tallarn - John French

Eagles Talon / Iron Corpses - Audio books by David Annandale and John French, 2015

Third Dark Angels book - Gav Thorpe (2015-16)

Prospero graphic novel - Gav Thorpe (2015-16)

Dreadwing - Dan Abnett, working title, (2015-16)

Half of these are from my own memory and half I've grabbed from other forums, credit where credit is due and all that.

Thanks to Death Nikorps

I thought the Master of Mankind might actually be about Horus.

That did occur to me, it would be a funny twist on the title. WIth Vengeful Spirit just gone though I think more people are crying out for something about the Emperor than Horus.

I think MoM might be the Webway War.

EDIT: If anyone knows the order in which these are coming out then I'll edit OP and try to put them in some kind of semblance. Also if anyone knows any other future releases post them and I'll edit them in as well

Master of Mankind is about a Land Raider that is physically attracted to the Emperor.

Actually, ADB said part of the story would be from the POV of a servitor, which, mind you, isn't exactly big on spirit or sentience. It's supposed to show how even a meaty machine is affected by the Emperor.

I'm pretty sure a Land Raider's machine spirit would react differently if the Emperor entered it. Although, perhaps not in the sense you mention. Which, I hope, never makes it to fanfic...

Considering the speed of the internet, it just not only hit the fanfics, but became full-blown fan-novel that was completed and published five days before the idea was even conceived.

@Perrin:

You forget Cybertenica by Rob Sanders, a Limited Edition Novella out this year (I asked at the HHWeekender), certainely the next Tallarn by John French and The Eagles Talon / Iron Corpses (audio 2015) by David Annandale & John French. The third Dark Angels book by Gav Thorpe (2015-16), the Graphic Novel on Prospero by Gav Thorpe (2015-16) and the next Dan Abnett supposed to be about Dark Angels too and called Dreadwing (not the final title I think, 2015-16).

You're welcome, glad for having stop your heart. You know, this news are not really "new" for me (some for years), and if you had follow my (huuuge) LiveTweet during the Horus Heresy Weekender you should have known all this a month ago. msn-wink.gif

Thanks, added to the OP. Have you got any info on the plots of any of those stories? Even if it's which Legions will be involved, even if it's just a rumour.

Sorry, man; if it ain't the B&C, it ain't for me.

What a time to make a rhyme... :P

Cybertenica is following Mechanicum (McNeill), on Mars but with Legionaries... (He did not say which legion but "it is  logic they are there").

For the rest, I don't know ! :)

  • 2 weeks later...

I hardly think that Gav Thorpe can do a worse job than either of the authors or the two previous Horus Heresy Dark Angels novels, both of which were truly awful - much worse than Gav's Angels of Darkness IMHO.

Gav Thorpe might not do an absolutely terrible job...but I doubt he'll be doing a good job.

Give him his dues, Gav's heresy stuff hasn't been that bad, especially the Raven Guard one.

The Lion, was ok and I enjoyed the one in Age of Darkness with Astelan getting narked at the treatment of terran marines.

It's his 40k Dark Angel stuff that doesn't read well; the hunt seems to be the only thing that writers use as a plot device, and it's getting rather tedious.

And the characters are rather one dimensional in the 40k setting, though again the heresy era guys have more personality, probably because they're not a product of 10,000 years of indoctrination.

Saying that, Abnett writing Dark Angels has me really fired up.

I love how every Black Library thread eventually devolves into DA fans laying into Gav. It would be hypocritical of me to complain too much, as I've been guilty of it before and my first reaction was to get upset that it seems the audio CD with DA/NL sees the NL get AD-B again while we get saddled with Gav (let them swap for just one piece of work and see how the NL fans like it!). That said, I'm sure we can find other items from this news to talk about.

For example, Dan taking a swing at a DA novel is pretty interesting, especially after his treatment of them in Unremembered Empire. Reading UE it struck me that Dan really wanted to get into the lore of the DA but didn't have the pagespace. I'm looking forward to see what he comes up with, as the nuances of our traditions and organisation haven't really been covered. That said, I hope Dan leaves lots of room for Bligh to do his thing in our HH rulebook... the last thing I'd want to see is our Rite of War having something to do with being really good at marching.

LOL...I bet they wouldn't like it one bit. Thorpe and Swallow are both on my "do not read" list. One day I might give them another shot if one of their future novels benefits from good word of mouth...but as it is, no thank you.

Fear to Tread and Deliverance Lost were completely wasted opportunities because of the authours' lack of writing skill.

Deliverance Lost is terrible IMO, not just because of the ill-conceived fluff changes but because Gav is simply a mediocre writer at best.
