My first step into GK

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

with the new edition I have been eying the GK codex.. or Inquisition. I play IG and have been very successful in this edition with 17 straight wins, 5 of which made it beyond turn 3. Still, I feel I am lacking a bit long ranged pressure.

Is there anything a GK or INQ detachment can bring anything to my 1500 and 1850 army? Right now it would be something along the lines of this:

Pask Punisher

Dozer, Relics, MM sponsons

Plasmacutioner Wingman

Dozer

2x lvl2 Primaris

2x Veterans, 3 meltas, grenadiers, Taurox

Hydra Battery

2x Hydra

Wyvern Battery

2x Wyvern

That is somewhere around 1158 points (I think). Of cause, this is flexible.

Do you have any idea how Henchmen or GK can enhance my (battleforged) mech list? I value turn 1 firepower a lot thus I like the Vindicare and Psyflemen for obvious reasons. If the GK detachment goes above the 1500 points they compete with my Imperial Knight (who is pure murder, so it better be good). What I am also lacking are bullet sponges up front, but I have been able to play around it with AV14 and armour spam.

Also, remember that if I drop the Hydras I can play IG as an allied detachment OR I can play 2 primaries as a combined detachment.

Any feedback appretiated msn-wink.gif

We don't have any long range firepower, well none that other chapters don't have access to. In fact that's where the IG can beat us on the table.

A squad of 5 jokearo in a chimera could do some damage, but at AV 12 only at the front it would be vulnerable.

A Land Raider Redeemer with MM, storm bolter and psybolts could put out a lot of shots at a higher strength than any of the standard chapters. We also have an invulnerable save on our land raiders which will help soak some up some shots, but only if the psychic power was activated.

A dreadknight may be a far cry from what you were after, but with a personal teleporter and a heavy incinerator it could easily dispatch a group of mobs. With AP2 and S10 it could even destroy heavy armour in close combat.

We don't have a lot of heavy weapons, even less on turn one but if it's daemon hunting firepower you're after then we're your best bet.

Well, maybe I expressed myself the wrong way.

Something to complement my firepower. Dreadknights could act as decent bullet sponges. Henchmen with plasma servitors, psykers and psybacks can offer decent fire support (midrange to long-ish range). And, probably most important part, spam warp charges, get Aegis buff and have several psychic bases to cast stuff from.

I'll make a quick approximation of a 1500 and 1850 list later on.

Okay, I had a few thoughts and here is the 1500 list consisting of 2 Combined Arms Detachments, IG being the primary one:

HQ

Pask Vanquisher, LC

Vanquisher Wingman, LC

360

Coteaz

100

Inquisitor Ordo Hereticus, 3x skulls
34

Primaris lvl2 (hides behind the LR tanks to buff them)

Troops
2x Grenadiers, 3x melta, Taurox

310

2x Henchmen: 2 PC servitors, 1 Psyker, 2 Acolytes with bolters, Psyback (joined by the 2 inquisitors)

220

Heavy Support
Wyvern Battery
2x Wyvern

2x Psyfleman Dread

270

1499 Total

At 1850 take the list above, toss in a Vindicare Assassin, 2 Hydras (1 Squadron) and another lvl2 Primaris. Drop some upgrades somwhere because it is at 1859.

The idea behind it is to establish psychic supremacy. Psychic Deathstars are the only threat to my army I have encountered thus far and having so many warp charges, aegis and so many disciplines available, it makes it way easier to take. And Screamer Stars are invalidated by the amount of save sanctic platforms.

To get psychic supremacy I needed to give up some dakka, but not a lot given that psybacks and psyflemen offer very solid fire support and the vindicare is simply death incarnate for tanks and a nice addition given how valuable ap1 is these days.

Do you think this splice has competitive value? Or am I better off by sticking with a purist IG list and capitalize on huge number of scoring troops and fire power available to me as opposed to psychic shenanigans? Both ways offer a way to play around psychic death stars, the question is, which one is more competitive in a allcomers environment.
