Major_Gilbear
Lovely work all round! The marbling on the wings came out particularly well I think. dwez
The glow on the plasma guns on your Ravenwing is awesome! How did you do it? It's a bit hit an miss sometimes but I start off with the old Maccarius Solar Orange. As a foundation paint you can thin it down and it's quite easy to blend it into the surrounding colours so it fades from the recesses outwards. I then apply a thinned brighter orange and then yellow with a final drybrush highlight of white for raised areas or thinned white wash used sparingly in the crevices. If it's OK at this stage all good, if it;s just not working - not orange enough then I have an orange craft acrylic that's more red than the Maccarius that I wash over it and it ties all the colours together. I've tried using it from the start but it just doesn't thin as effectively as MSO, so you can't affect the glow as well [cheap paints]. Sorry I can't be any more specific, sometimes my OSL works sometimes it doesn't, here's where I got it right the first time: http://www.40kaddict.uk/2014/08/dark-angels-mo-plasma-dark-vengeance.html My Cerastus worked out OK: http://www.40kaddict.uk/2015/12/imperial-knight-cerastus-in_12.html http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eDEDeJGRT1Y/VmRkk-JzlUI/AAAAAAAAfMg/janRbCAGAzY/s320/P1100280.JPG And more recently on the landspeeder gavitic plate: http://www.40kaddict.uk/2016/08/dark-angels-land-speeder-typhoons.html Hope they help. dwez
Added a couple of Land Speeder Typhoons to my Ravenwing. They've been a long time coming but I'm really pleased with the result in the end. http://www.40kaddict.uk/2016/09/dark-angels-land-speeder-typhoons-to.html MrBear, Dosjetka, Ada and 1 other 4 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292153-dark-angels-20-years-in-the-making/page/2/#findComment-4521637 Share on other sites
Brother Turok
The scout cloaks, the red lights on the bikes, and that yellow/orange glow on the plasma... :-O amazing!! Love the army, and love the 2nd edition style marines. I miss the era of 2nd - 3rd edition. Keep up the great work! You have a force worthy of killing your sons nidz for sure. dwez
Finished my second Imperial Knight, this time a Paladin. He's called Euronymous - The Fallen Knight. He was a Dark Angel on Caliban when it was shattered, a piece of it cast into the warp and then reappered within a pocket universe accessible only on Ferron Proxima. Many of the other Legion escaped and fled the planet but Euronymous went into seclusion, only resurfacing when he recognised a local Knightly house had been turned renegade. Enraged he returned to the Shard of Caliban and the ancient armories that still remained and interraced with the only engine capable of stopping house Corvus - the Relic Imperial Knight. Dark Rage
Wow.. really nice, love how worn and old it looks, it also looks as though it has been repainted throughout the years with the red damage underneath the new paint. dwez
Although it’s been a good few months since I completed the Land Speeders I’ve not been idle on the Dark Angels. In fact I’ve been rather productive and completed these Bastions which I’ve only just had chance to take [half] decent photographs of. I’m a big fan of Fortifications, whether it be for my Dark Angels or my Tyranids [the Heresy!]. My Bastion tends to end up destroyed in most games but it’s always nice to have a platform for my Devastator Squad to start in. I did the Comms Relay too but for the most part I take the Quad Gun. This means my Squad Sergeant can man the Quad Gun while the Missile Launchers continue to fire their heavy weapons. If you want to see more pictures check out my recent blog post http://www.40kaddict.uk/2017/04/dark-angels-bastions-to-done.html Dosjetka 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292153-dark-angels-20-years-in-the-making/page/2/#findComment-4709500 Share on other sites
dwez
I've been working really hard on my Ravenwing Bikers - a Bikers Dozen of 13 - 7 Command/Black Knights and 6 basic bike squad It's been a real hard slog, the basic bike squad themselves were actually started in 2011 but other projects just got in the way. Painting can be a tortuous process and there are some models that require more mental fortitude to get done than others. Having just beaten two Drop Pods into submission [which reminds me I need to share those also] it only seemed right and proper to tackle the horrors of bikes and to batch all 13 at once! The Command guys were partiuclarly challenging - I'm looking at you Standard Bearer and Apothecary But the converted Dark Vengeance Bikes to Dark Knights came out really well And then there were these 6 which I've had for over 6 years now. The most I've ever painted as a batch was 6 and that was twice as much as I felt comfortable with so to finally get more than double that feels amazing. I know I was forced to make compromises in places, but they were made to ensure completion. I spent my childhood with unpainted armies so if I have to sacrifice quality or make a poor colour decision here and there I'll do so if it means the project reaches a conclusion.Anyway, loads of pictures here [with even more to come on Friday that look cooler ;) ]http://www.40kaddict.uk/2017/06/dark-angels-ravenwing-to-done.html Pearson73, Raztalin, Trixie and 3 others 6 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292153-dark-angels-20-years-in-the-making/page/2/#findComment-4774939 Share on other sites
Cpt. Bannockburn
This is a very beautiful force. I especially like the Raven feathers on the RW units. I wish I had that idea before I painted mine dwez 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292153-dark-angels-20-years-in-the-making/page/2/#findComment-4777408 Share on other sites
dwez
I had opportunity to make some Assault troops up. Having picked up some Sanguinary Guard legs for cheap off ebay I saw their quartered knee plates as ideal for representing the 5th Company's symbol. I also loved the idea that although there's the 'warrior monk/knight' theme of Dark Angels that standard Assault Squad armour is as ornate as your Elite Blood Angels [on the legs at least]. It's one of the first times I've 'built' a squad. Most recently I've been making/painting starter box figures with only minor conversions. Here I was choosing weapons and details and posing them how I felt best. not entirely sure why I switched the chapter shoulder pads to the right, maybe their just 'sinister'. I'm just really pleased with some of the poses In particular the twin chainsword guy is a favourite, I'm not even sure his weapon options are possible but I could potentially use him as an Eviscerator equipped Marine To see more point your cogitators here: http://www.40kaddict.uk/2017/07/dark-angels-assault-squad-to-done.html robofish7591, Race Bannon and Chaplain Raeven 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292153-dark-angels-20-years-in-the-making/page/2/#findComment-5031660 Share on other sites
