CoffeeGrunt
Also you can't boost Snap Shots, I've seen people try and do that before. Markerlights specifically state that they can buff the BS of Snap Shots, which is confirmed as legal in 7th Ed. That 3+ invul is so reliable though. I don't often see the Nova backfire, its a 3+ to turn on and most turns you can stay out of AP2 range anyway (very few weapons have 60"+ range and AP2). Melee is a lot better, especially for Knights as we only need one wound to connect past the 3+ invul. Also, they don't just melt Terminators, they melt vehicles (even without the nova overcharge mode for Ordnance), infantry of all types...FMC's and other fast MC's are the only things Riptides won't kill too easily. Depends on the board size you use. If you're playing against Tau with a melee army from 60" away, then it does seem like GG. Riptides don't do as well against vehicles due to the changes to Smash now, and I can't tell you how many times I've lost a 'Tide turn 1 to Lascannons. A lot of my offered advice is from experience of playing Tau. Tau do not do as well in shooting matches as people expect, and when the Markerlights are gone, even Orks can overwhelm them with sheer volume of saves. They don't do lots of shots which is why they rely on making the most of every shot they get. Reclusiarch Darius
Markerlights specifically state that they can buff the BS of Snap Shots, which is confirmed as legal in 7th Ed. Oh wow, thats nuts. You'd still have to get marker hits on the Flyer/FMC though, bit chancy. Depends on the board size you use. If you're playing against Tau with a melee army from 60" away, then it does seem like GG. S8 AP2 on your main gun reks most vehicles, and if not you use the twin fusion blaster you have as backup. I dunno how you're losing your Riptide that early, 60" range and Jetpack means you can sit 66" away from their closest units and still be in effective range. With Eldar nerfed you'll probably see Necrons re-emerge as their most common Ally choice. Never cared about sharing buffs, they have stupidly hard to kill Troops, and Imotekh helps you get first turn. My experience with Tau is I gun down half the enemy army before they make melee. Sometimes thats enough to cripple them, other times that half of their army just curbstomps their way onto my objectives. One Fusion Blaster often doesn't cut it, and an S8 Blast is best used on Infantry groups, not tanks. It can't do anything to AV14 aside from maybe, possibly Glance it. You have to be within 9" to use the Fusion Blaster, so I'm not understanding how you're saying Riptides can hang at 60" away yet also be within 9"... Also I don't play on very large tables, so any range above 48" is moot. Its twin-linked, and you can easily one-shot if you're in melta range. You don't see much AV14 these days anyway, and you'd probably use other stuff (Piranhas or suicide Helios teams) if you were dealing with say Russes. I'm just making the point that a Riptide can in a pinch deal with a hard AV target, but you are correct that you'll usually camp and not be in range. The fusion blaster also matters when you're Intercepting Flyers, as its twin-linked (unlike your main gun) and with the exception of Ravens it'll rek most of them in one shot (barring Jink/invul saves of course). Again, Missilesides are a better hard-counter, but the Riptide can still do work. That's why I reckon it was kinda broken. Its insanely flexible with VT and EWO, its very mobile, its absurdly tough to kill, and it only competes with Crisis (it should really be a Heavy Support choice, I have no idea who thought putting it in Elites was a good idea). Removing 'Prescience' and the Support 'O has brought it down a bit in power level, it's still a very powerful auto-include. The nova-charged ion accelerator or HBC still does good work against most vehicles Also I don't play on very large tables, so any range above 48" is moot. If you do Vanguard Strike you can end up with angles above 48". Even in standard deployment, there are scenarios where 48" will be out. 60" matters dude, I've been on the recieving end of Riptides. The ion accelerator should really be 36". Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292181-help-against-tau/page/2/#findComment-3715134 Share on other sites
