Gentlemanloser
Inspired by Irwits *awesome* true scale Grey Knights; http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/285845-irwits-grey-knight-army-build-feat-true-scale/ I'm now considering using 7th to get back to the GK 'roots', and representing them as an Elite army of Powerful Individuals , much like the Deathwatch. And Unbound gives me just the oppurtunity to do so! First thoughts would be to run a Squad as 10 ICs. But the GK Codex ICs are a little, lacking, compared to current standards. So lets look to another Codex. Space Marine Librarians (Storm Bolter / Force Weapon) would seem like ideal candidates, PA or TDA (or a mix of both!). How would you build a Squad / Army of 'Elite' Grey Knights using ICs to form Squads? How would you kit them out? Storm Shields? Which Psychic Powers? Would you include a GKGM, or Librarian (or Brotherhood Champion / Techmarine), or stear clear of our actual Codex? Valkyrion
GK librarians and BA Librarian Dreadnoughts. GK Librarians come with 4++ stock plus can take other useful goodies - if you want to keep some in reserve then teleport homers are useful, rerolling a hit (master crafted weapon) and a wound (digital weapons) helps mitigate base 2A, plus the possibility that the opponent won't get to strike back (brain mines). Plus I think they are the only non unique ML3 psykers available to Imperial forces (might be wrong there) The cons though are cost (200+ for ML3) and no access to Biomancy. Librarian Dreadnoughts have access to better/varied powers than the stock GK ones, including the option to take Daemonology... Reclusiarch Darius
Terminator Inquisitor spam is probably okay. Solodin spam could also work, although the wording on their weapon upgrades is awkward (you need 5 models to upgrade 2 to have psycannons :( ). Gentlemanloser
TDA Inquisitors would be T3. Solodins couldn't join to form a Squad. :/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292226-grey-knights-an-army-of-ics/#findComment-3713193 Share on other sites
Quozzo
Terminator Inquisitor spam is probably okay. Solodin spam could also work, although the wording on their weapon upgrades is awkward (you need 5 models to upgrade 2 to have psycannons ).If you take 3 squads of 8 purifiers, could one squad take 4 psycannons? I would take 8 Grand Masters (well, actually 8 brother captains as they're cheaper) backed up by a librarian and maybe a dreadknight, unless you specifically want ICs in which case two librarians. 8 brother-captains and 8 brotherhood champions are funnily enough 2000 points. I don't really see the Grey Knights as a Deathwatch for daemons though. The deathwatch need to prepare for every conceivable xeno threat, whereas Grey Knights are very efficient at dealing with one specific threat so we don't have as much variety as the deathwatch would. Not unless they release Codex: Slanesh, Codex: Tzeench, Codex: Khorn and Codex: Nurgle. (spelling may vary) An idea I had a while back was to bring a legal list of say, vanguard veterans but with all the same weapon. Then represent the squad with a single model. That model would then be the equivalent of the squad but coming from a single model would be sort of awesome. ID etc wouldn't have any effect as he just takes a wound and then shrugs it off (to adhere to the squads interpretation of 1 wound = 1 model dead). If you're tempted to go down the counts-as path you could take a model for the purifiers squads as it's clearly unbound anyway. Gentlemanloser
70 points can get you a SM Librarian with a Storm Bolter and Force Weapon. Wth the same stats as our Librarian (but PA/PML1 compared to TDA/PML2). To get one in TDA/PML2 (With a Storm Bolter) costs 120. With an option for a Storm Shield for an extra 5 points. 25 Points cheaper than ours, with a 3++ Save. That's quite attractive. Even a 70 point, 2W Libby in PA is attractive. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292226-grey-knights-an-army-of-ics/#findComment-3713492 Share on other sites
Grand Master Caloth
GK librarians only have a 5++ stock, Valkyrion. If they had an Iron Halo as well, they would be asking the very best psykers, if not the best in the Imperium (minus a few special charas) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292226-grey-knights-an-army-of-ics/#findComment-3713583 Share on other sites
Valkyrion
GK librarians only have a 5++ stock, Valkyrion. If they had an Iron Halo as well, they would be asking the very best psykers, if not the best in the Imperium (minus a few special charas) They have a Nemesis Force Sword and TDA, so 4++ no? edit - remembered it's in CC only. Still not bad. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292226-grey-knights-an-army-of-ics/#findComment-3714133 Share on other sites
jeffersonian000
DA Librarians with Power Field, raiding around in our Land Raiders or Stormravens, for a 3++ save on 4HP mobile gun plate forms. Add in as many cheap Psykers as you can to pump up the Warp Pool.
