Starting Tempestus Scions

LOL.

I spoke to the owner of the FLGS while we were playing out game yesterday. He said they ban C:I because it is not available in print and therefore not everyone has access to it. I pointed out that if you don't have an iPad you can download the regular electronic version that will work on most computers but he still seemed to think that the rules were too obscure as a result of being electronic only (yet they don't ban Codex: Adepta Sororitas -- forgot to point that out!). I think the beat-down that my warband laid on his squad didn't help my case any. He definitely wasn't impressed with War Hymns.

He was also very unimpressed with Unstoppable Advance and even asked to read IA12 because he didn't believe me when I said the rule worked the way it did. That no doubt ensured that Forgeworld stays forbidden too. Although considering that ending the game where we did he won by a lot I don't think he should be upset, but if the local culture is already biased against Forgeworld this sort of stuff just reinforces that.

The first steps have been taken.  I have my Tempestus battle box, 2 regular boxes of Scions, and one Manticore.  Below are the first test builds and color schemes.  Love the look/detail of the new models.  Much more challenging to pain with my limited skills as compared to Space Marines.

Taurox Prime with missiles & autocannon.  Modified the storm bolter with a gatling cannon barrel for a little flavor.  This will also let me 'counts-as' a storm bolter or a heavy stubber.  I like how it  gives the vehicle a more special forces look.

Tempestor Prime.  I went with a white beret and coat lining to contrast with the dark blue/green carapace armor.  Command squad & sergeant models will all have white berets while standard troops will have carapace armor helmets.

Plasma gunner pointing out things to shoot rather than shooting them.  Only six more of these guys to add to my army.......  Gonna have to be a lot of conversions so I don't have an army full of tour guide plasma gunners.

Isn't codex inquisition lumped in with grey knights in the caveat that they can't choose malefic powers?

Not at all.  An inquisitorial detachment can consist of just a single inquisitor, if that's what you want.  Not possible with C:GK.  A C:I inquisitor can take malefic powers, but suffers the same non-GK downside to taking santic powers that everyone else does.  The C:I version of Coteaz does not make henchmen troops There are no troops choices in C:I, but we need an FAQ to have the C:I Coteaz give henchmen "objective secured," although that introduces a different problem:  C:I has no limit on the number of henchmen per detachment.  How about 100 three-man superscoring warbands for 12 points each?  That would be...problematic! Inquisition did not get lumped into C:GK, and although many of the inquisitorial options are similar, there are marked differences.

I really like the white berets, they stand out well smile.png The colour scheme is great overall too I'm keen to see a squad painted up now!

Yeah, I'm doing the painting in five man sets so I stay motivated. I won't assemble another five guys until the first five are done. Couple this with how eager I am to play this finished army and I'm getting things done. Of the remaining three being painted now I have the TCS medic, a Scion melta gunner, and a Scion hotshot lasgunner. Should be wrapping them up tomorrow as the wife is out of town and I got their base colors done tonight. Damn finicky models slow me down though. I could paint a ten man Tac squad in the time it will take me to do this first set of five.

I also have the Taurox and a half assembled Valk that I'm painting on whenever I get tired of fiddly infantry work.

I really love the white berets, looks sharp!

Can you tell me the difference in the scion and command squad box? Is the CS box just have an.extra upgrade sprue? I've just been offered 2 scion command boxes cheap, and need to know my options.

Liking forward to seeing more!

Yeah that's a good way of approaching it, small batches and swapping between model types :) My 25 man ETL vow was too much so I had to break it down into small batches to save my sanity :P I hope to see your army completed soon :D

How cheap are those MTCS boxes immortals? Check the GW site out as it shows you the sprues on the far right of the gallery images - as you can see it comes with a lot of cool bits just like the Guard CS box.

Thanks for the GW tip WarriorFish, ill check it when I het home.

He's offring 2 boxes for my old beserkers and re-write his army background (im a writer). It's a good trade its just I loved those guys but have given up on CSM being very fun/useful for a few years. Also the concept he wants is just...painful.... to read. So il probably buy them either way.

Emperors Immortals. The Scion Command and Scion box are the same mate. They just show them as 2 separate boxes on GW to show different configurations. You get five torsos and parts to either built the command squad or normal scions.

Same for the Ogryns/Bullgryns/Nork. Three entries on the store but all 3 are built by the same box. Guess it just saves confusion if people want one and don't know it's all the same.

Love how you have painted those Scions by the way Bonzi. The uniform looks great! :) looking forward to seeing how that Taurox turns out.

I use scions as my veterans and only use that pair of arms once in my 3 plasma gunners.

Let me know if you want details of how I converted it, it's very easy and takes no time at all :)

Well here is the first five all finished up only three days after I said they would be done.  The three white berets are part of the command squad which still needs two more plasma gunners.  The melta and hotshot models belong to the first DSing melta squad which needs the sarg, one more melta and one more hot shot.  My next batch will be the models to complete the two squads.

I really like the look of these models and feel good about the pain scheme.  I need to start thinking about unit markings and iconography to do the finishing touches.  I'm thinking all of painting all non-command troops with a white left or right knee pad.  This would tie the white color into all the models and give me a good canvas for unit markings since the shoulder pads are just too small to do much on.
