Pretty excited. WordBearers Omnibus just arrived

Recommended Posts

Just thought I would come to the place where people would be excited with me about something that arrived in the mail today.  Got the Wordbearers Omnibus today.  Great condition, found it on eBay for 35 bucks, beats the 100+ tag I have been seeing.  Anyway will get into soon, need to finish the Inquistion war set first.

Yowzah indeed, I missed the trilogy and then saw the Omnibus so figured I would get it, little did I know that the $15 book had gone to $100+ if you could find it that is.

I am sure that it will be a good read.

censored.gif!!! its in the charity shop down the road for 2 quid, i picked up the first soul drinkers omnibus, books 4 and 5 in the series, both space wolves omnibuses, geniveve omnibus, the von carstein omnibus and a guard omnibus for less than 20 quid

the second word bearer book gets a little bit slow in places, just stick with it though, its worth it in the end

Guess it is a matter of what you want. Ebay has it all over the place for 100 bucks. Saw the Iron warriors omnibus on Amazon for $700 crazy.

Ehh...book 3 was the only one I really liked, and I was more interested in Sabtec, Kol Badr, and Aquilonius of the White Consuls than Marduk and his Mustache of Evilness + 5.

And then Erebus ruined that novel, proving that some things have remained constant for ten thousand years.

50 more pages for me to go in order to finish the first book and really, I love every single word in the book. The portrayal of the Word Bearers is awesome, the characters never get stale and the action is quite in the realm of the reasonable. It is a book worth every page in it and I cant wait to read the other two.

So far one of the best books of a traitor legion in the M41 era which explains a great deal the mechanics in a chaos warband, the unity of purpose in the Word Bearers legion and the classical vie for power between traitor legionnaires but non in the mindless style of the GW publications but in a veritable way.

Still I think that the true gem in this book (so far the first one) is the actual representation of the traitor marine in combat. They are still veterans of the Heresy, they are still space marines, and atop that is is the sheer indoctrination and fundamentalism in the Word Bearer ranks, it is quite clear that those guys were the first to embrace the concept of holy warrior and they play the part. A surprise is that the novel is not the usual bolter porn but the action is well placed and presents the true vicious nature of fighting not only traitor astartes but also engaging the cultists and the daemons in combat.

In the end what I love most in the book so far is the actual display of a chaos warband in battle, with marines, dreadnoughts, defilers and tanks showing their might and viciousness in combat. The full panoply of a chaos warband is unleashed upon a world and the scale of destruction and carnage escalates quickly in the realms of utter apocalypse.

Things worth a note IMO are the following:

- the Word Bearers care for the loss of warriors and material and see it as a sacrilege should the lost fall in the hands of the enemy;

- it is superb to read about the faculties of the Coryphaus ranks, the duties and the honours,

- chaos architecture and technology, while grimdark in a proper 40k style I think that Marduk's quarters are indeed a stupendous work of chaos architecture, a seamless integration of the physical and the magical/daemonic; Not only that but the Dark Mechanicus devices and the integration of daemonic tech into machines used every day even for the most common of tasks;

- can't state it enough, Chaos fights as a cohesive and disciplined force, with clear objectives, with an adamant line of command and with the sheer thoroughness expected from veteran astartes;

In short I have yet to understand why I have not read this series sooner,...

It woul probably be an event only anthology. The only short story concerning Marduk in the Marine anthologies is the one between Torment and The Tallyman, I can't think of the title right now.

I highly suggest buying the short story of this, it is one of the best pieces of chaos literature I have every read.

Haven't actually read this series yet, though it has interested me...so is the general consensus that it's worth a read? Other than the Night Lords trilogy most of my experience with 40k Space Marine writing (both Loyalist and Chaos) has been rather lacklustre.

Always looking for something to inspire my CSM though! happy.png

Well I am only about 40 pages in so far, but it is a good read.  I really have enjoyed the way that the Legion is portrayed and the descriptions are great so far.  in addition, it has been a tremendous resource for legion organization and such.

Not far enough to say that it will be awesome but it is a pretty good read so far.
