Spaniard
So I'm a new guard player and i haven't actually got anything yet, ( my cadian defense force has been ordered) but i've been reading the codex. Im wondering why don't i see a lot of list that take the Bane Wolf. With the Chem cannon being poisoned 2+ and AP 3 i think it would be perfect for anti infantry also considering that its a fast tank. It can get up to some scouts or a unit dug in covers and smoke them out. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292594-bane-wolf/ Share on other sites
David Ravel
It's very cool on paper, but since it's not torrent, you have to get near the ennemy. That means that A- you have to go over the board (or outflank, but that's another story since that mean you can 1. not arrive on time 2. not arrive on the right side with a poor range of firing) and with only AV 12 HP 3, that means you will die if the other wants it (with this price cost, it's not a good thing) and B- you will be in charge range, which means your AV10 on the rear is gonna make you open to all sorts of bad thing. Of course against S3 creature, it doesn't matter. But those generally have 4+, so why not take the torrent flamer str 6 ap 4 ? If they can hit, they are very good (ap 3 ignore cover). But they won't that much. You can still try them, proxy or whatever. I own Hellhound and I tried the three variant. They all failed. I don't use them anymore lol. Especially now that most artillery can be taken from FW on platform and therefore cheaper (Basilisk platform) or cheap Wyvern or cheap Leman Russ, I don't see any reason of using them. Unless you think the model and the concept is cool : if so, go ahead ! Spaniard
That makes sense after hearing it from someone else. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292594-bane-wolf/#findComment-3720982 Share on other sites
Idlem
I tend to use mine as a support for my troops holding an objective. A lone guard squad holding ground against a quick power armored unit, or something high toughness benefits greatly from the intervention of a Banewolf. It can move quick, like you said, so it can hop to where it's needed. Don't use it as a line breaker, use it for supporting a unit before it gets charged or is getting picked off. Just mind the armor facing. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292594-bane-wolf/#findComment-3720988 Share on other sites

WarriorFish
I agree with Idlem, the Banewolf is good - very good. The trouble people often have is using it wrong, it's not really a line breaker unit but makes for a fantastic support and counter attack one. Those Marines eyeing up your infantry will think twice with a Bane Wolf skulking around, and nothing will flush out heavy armour from an objective quicker! Don't forget that such units (like the Demolisher) are so dangerous that their mere presence can be as much as a tactical boon as their weaponry. Last but not least it isn't too hard to have the cannons swap out so you can have all three variants from a single tank :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292594-bane-wolf/#findComment-3721085 Share on other sites
