Bloodgrin
Doing my first pretty much Apocalypse game Saturday night, it is 4 on 4, 6k points 1500 per person. I do not have any of the really big dogs , though I will be bringing a Knight and a Caestus Assault Ram to the party. I am lending my other Knight to one of my partners to free up some points. Have no real idea what I am getting into, I know there will be at least two Baneblades, three Knights and probably some other old tank surprises. Are formations important? Are there any other special need to know things for Wolves in the game type? Rune Priest Jbickb
At 1500 points you might find it hard to pull off many of the apocalypse formations especially with the knight and the ram in your list. While a big game to be sure, this is not quite apocalypse scale as I understand it. For me apocalypse scale is around 3k plus per person because then you start to see all the crazy formations and stuff. As for how to deal with some of that stuff I think you first 2 unit choices will help and as for other thoughts I would bring a lot of troops as they tend to get removed in large blocks by the bane blades. You also may want a wolf priest with some lascannon long fangs to bring down some big stuff. That's what I got for now hope it helps Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292653-wolves-in-apocalypse/#findComment-3722512 Share on other sites
logun
we are doing a 3v3, 15,000pt a side this weekend also. some formations are good and give bonuses. in the last game i took the thunderwolf flanking force(which allows you charge when they come on) pretty much charging straight into the side of the squishy tau heavy support and wiping them of the home objective. but formations are not important in my opinion. stratagems are important though IMO so choose wisely. we are running 14 drop pods and quite a few deep striking tau suits so we are taking a stratagem that allows us to not scatter. i have a lot of combi weapons along with others on my team who have one use items, so we are taking a stratagem that allows us to replenish all those. Bloodgrin
I am trying to beef it up to 2k per person just because I want to run the Thunderwolf formation lol. skeletoro
hmm, at 1500 each, I wonder if your group might agree to allow players to 'share' formations? For instance maybe you could field a librarius formation, but all four players contribute 1-2 librarians/rune priests each? Pool all your predators together and field them as a joint spearhead, etc? That wolf pack flanking force looks amazing to me. I haven't played apoc, and I am sure there are other options that are equally or even more powerful, but from a regular 40k perspective... damn those are some scary powerful special rules. I really hope that formation makes its way into 40k. Obviously it would need to be nerfed hard to keep it balanced. Perhaps it would be enough to remove the 'charge when you arrive from reserves' rule and leave hit and run, outflank and rage intact.
