New FW Heresy Bundles

Recommended Posts

The MkII, MkIII and MkIV Strike Forces have been out for a while. There was also a similar bundle for a Legion Invasion Force which is a combo of MkIII and MKIV Tactical bundles with some command, Apothecaries, and Praetors (which is still a great deal considering it's £390 for all that, serious consideration if you're planning big).

I bookmarked a ForgeWorld Bundles page previously, which has all the bundle deals on - http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Forge__World_Bundles?page=1

The Iron Hands one is interesting, but I'd think if I were to buy it I would pick up the heads and torsos upgrades too to make them in-line with the Iron Hands tactical squad in the set.

The Sons of Horus one dissapoints me, in much the same way as the MkIV Strike Force, in that it has the older MkIV set (i.e. the ones released during the Badab War books, before the Legion ones) which are nowhere near as good as the Legion ones that are also included in the set. Tack on the fact that you just get pads to add some flavour, and you're paying more money than the Iron Hands bundle, I don't really like it.

Thanks for making me notice that. That's a bundle I won't be buying then.

From personal experience, I wouldn't buy non-Legion MkIV again.

  • Legion Mk IV and standard MK IV sets have different backpacks, whereas MK II and MK III are virtually identical between their Legion and non-Legion sets.
  • There is a lack of poseability within the non-Legion sets, as they come with only two / three leg poses (Legion sets are virtually unique across the 5), and the arms are all identical.
  • On an aesthetics side, I like the fact the Legion MKIV has the bobble / studs on parts of the armour. It gives variety to an otherwise plain set.
  • The Legion sets have had their manufacturing process a little better thought out. For instance, backpacks aren't fed resin through their tops and therefore there isn't an issue trying to cut on a flimsy part of the component. Plus I've had less prevalent mold lines / mold disjoins on the Legion sets.

Mostly it's aesthetics on my part, the Legion set is far superior in my eyes. I can understand ForgeWorld wanting to move this stock on, but it's literally preventing me from buying those bundle deals.
