Horus Heresy list, Anti-Nids

  Hey Y'all!

Longtime lurker here.

I normally play dark angels in the 500 to 1000 point range

I recently picked up the Horus Heresy books, (combined birthday gifts) and I am totally at a loss to build a 1500 point list to fight my friend's nids.

Could you give me a hand as i bounce ideas off y'all?

So far I had a couple of thoughts:
2 Kheres contemptors: Dakka-Dakka, can kill hordes and put wounds on MCs
Large tactical squads: is 20 men the way to go?
Are bikers worth it?
How about termies?
What legion rules are the best?
I was looking at praetors and something caught my eye. Could a decent Smashbane be made with the paragon blade and salamander rules? Instant death against those nasty large bugs.

I'm on my phone and will keep this short for now, but one thing that immediately comes to mind is missile launcher heavy support squads. 10 s8ap3 shots breaks almost any MC, while 10 s4ap5 blasts will handle any horde. I can't see a better matchup for them than nids! :P

That sounds great, but I lack the models...

 

I was thinking this:

 

master of signal: 85

20 man tac: 250

20 man tac: 250

Primaris lightning, 4x sunfury, ground traking auguries: 175

Fire Raptor: 200

Achilles Alpha: 300

 

Which leaves 240 points in a 1500 list.

 

How do y'all think should I kit out my infantry?

I also think I need more anti MC.

I feel like you're putting a LOT (more than half your force) into 3 quite fragile vehicles - anti-MC means his strength shots, best put out by either vehicles with good armour (Spartan comes to mind) or mass infantry (Legion Heavy Support squads with lascannons, Autocannons or missile launchers) - essentially don't try to out horde the Nids BUT Fury of The Legion will smash a full squad Gaunts quite easily, equally it has the chance (through weight of fire) to take down a warrior squad or a carnifex...

Anything with range and the word 'Volkite' in it is going to cause blobs of nids and even warriors to evaporate. Worth considering, but overdoing it could make a friend an enemy lol. Definitely worth sticking a 5-man Heavy Weapons squad with Culverins in, though.

 

Aside from that some of the above comments were good; mass missile launchers; perhaps some Predators toting Plasma Executioners or the ubiquitus Sicarans? You'll probably do well with a solid block of Tacticals waiting with an apothecary holding an augury scanner. In fact, stick augury scanners in everything to assist with those ever-present deep striking MC's.

 

Lastly, consider a small unit of Thallax as well. They have a great rule to prevent infiltrators getting too close.

Volkite heavy support squads just annihilate nids, a squad of those, a mortis contemptor with assault cannons, and a and 2 tactical squads to use Fury of the legion and you shouldn't have any problems, your volkites take care of hoards, mortis takes care of monsters and fliers, and tactical squads take care of whatever gets by the first two.
