Dreadnought bit compatibility?

Recommended Posts

Are the bits from a venerable dreadnought, particularly the front plates, interchangeable with the regular dreadnought chassis? I love the front piece with the armour and helmet, and I want to have it swappable with a regular dreadnought chassis. Is this an easy fix, or at all possible?

Yep, the front plate of any dreadnought will fit any other dreadnought chassis just the same. (But not the add on bits, those tend to be specific to the kit, eg. The coffin cover, or the frag launchers on an ironclad wouldn't cross over to any other kit)

But, in theory, its possible to do?

Maybe just easier to buy another dread?

Nah, it's easy enough to kitbash. I liked the "exposed helm" look of the venerable dread too, so I put the spare onto one of my other Dreadnought chassis. Just fill  the gaps with some plasticard and greenstuff and you're golden.

I just had someone give me a dread front plate from an unknown kit. It has pretty much fully armored marine on the front where the sarcophagus should be. he is all wired in like the venerable but with a full set of power armor on. I wanted to put this on my standard dreadnought as it looks kool. However, the angle behind the front plate and on the front of the gap where it goes was completely different. I had to spend about 20 minutes hacking some of the inside box area's off where the front plate hit to make it fit. It fit, however I now have some gaps as this one is slightly shorter (top to bottom) on the bottom that I need to fill as you can see light through him.

This is the only one I can think of, which is indeed from the Venerable. The interfacing problem between the front plate and the rest of the torso that you describe is also a feature of the venerable front plate being used on any of the other plastic dreadnought kits.

Before that Venerable Dread came out, I made my own exposed helmet look for a kit-bashed Chaos Dread using a chest piece from a Terminator, a power armoured shoulder pad turned upside down, and a cloth bit to cover the small oblong-shape gap between them.

No pictures right now unfortunately, but I do think it works quite well if you have the bits lying around.

I dont understand... that looks like a perfect fit?

Basically, every plastic dreadnought except the Venerable Dreadnought kit uses the piece on the left. As you can see, the Venerable Dreadnought kit's version is missing a tab, which is actually on the front plate of the Venerable Dreadnought kit instead. It's a minor conversion at most, but if one didn't realise this, it would not be a perfect fit, much like what Effeem was describing when he said he spent 20 minutes hacking something off.

it is, that front plate can be switched with any other dreadnought front plate (I've personally played merry go round with all bits from a venerable, an ironclad, a furioso, and regular dread) there are four coffin covers, two stylized open headed ones, and two that look more like the regular dread but with an opening to see the exposed helmet, and another two bits to cover that opening up and make a fully sealed coffin. Along with all that there are two small plates that can be used on top of rectangular coffins to change the design up, and another three sets to change the look of the armor on either side of the coffin. In all honesty the venerable dreadnought kit is one that I can recommend to any dreadhead for all the bits you get, and the sheer number of variations you can build, and all the little decorative pieces that end up helping vary the looks of chosen models.

In summary, the bits that fit on the venerable front plate generally don't cross over with other dreadnought kits, but the front plate itself can be fitted to any plastic dreadnought chassis.  (along with weapons, shin covers, and engine packs)

Edit: Haha, ninja by Fe, and corrected at that, I somehow never noticed that in all the dreads I've built.... you learn something new everyday.
