librisrouge
I'm struggling with anti-air at the moment and I'm thinking that the Thunderbolt is, point for point, a better deal than the Vendetta in that role. The biggest hurdle is price though. I simple cannot afford FW rates! That got me thinking about conversions and the Dark Angel Nephilim sprang to mind. What do you guys think about using one, with some weapon swaps, as an Imperial Navy fighter? WarriorFish
I think it'd be fine if you can get the right weapons on, as a flyer it is less of an issue getting the exact right size of a counts as. I have seen neither model on the table top so I can't say if they're the approximate same size but it'd be a good opportunity to Guard it up. Emperor knows the kit could do with some sales from all I've heard... Frater Cornelius
Well, the do look similar, but I have never held a TB before, so I can not say how they compare is size. But, a bit off-topic, ever considered a Hydra? 2 of them squadronned costs 1 HS slot and 140 points. They can dakka fliers, skimmers, the occasional ground target and have plenty utility outside of dakka if you can think outside of the box. Lucien Eilam
I've played against a Thunderbolt a few times, and while I didn't have a Nephilim on the table to compare it with, my recollection is that it's close to a Stormraven in terms of size and bulk. Definitely a lot bigger than a Stormtalon. A Nephilim's wings bulk it up a bit, but it would still look tiny next to the real thing. In fact, here's a photo of a Thunderbolt with a squadron of Valkyries: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Dzm8cp29aAc/UC-81Ef5eiI/AAAAAAAAAaY/OIkwszBntWA/s1600/DSC09287.JPG The Valkyrie is about as wide and long as a Stormraven, but much less bulky, so my memory seems to be sound. hendrik
why not convert one from a valkyrie, like i did? you only need a few heavy weapons from heavy weapon teams, but aside from that the entire build was made only using valkyrie parts: http://commissar.proboards.com/thread/17647/raver-pattern-thunderbolt Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292690-nephilim-as-thunderbolt/#findComment-3723452 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
Thanks for that Lucien and hendrik, that makes quite a difference! Looks like the Nephilim might be too small, so if you wanted to stick with it then you'd have to convert it somehow to bulk it out a bit. I'm unfamiliar with the kit so I don't know how easy that would be, so probably better to do hendrik's mod? librisrouge
That could work. Thanks Hendrik. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292690-nephilim-as-thunderbolt/#findComment-3723687 Share on other sites

Sex. That picture is pure sex! I will soon have four valkyries and I already have an avenger...but that pic renews my resolve to get a pair of thunderbolts as soon as my ETL vows are finished... Thunderhawk3015
You can always go an alternate route and loot and Ork flightabomba to turn into a Thunderbolt. Always fun to get some revenge on the greenskins for looting all our tanks. WarriorFish
I imagine the Ork lines fall into disarray seeing it, their tiny xenos brains unable to comprehend :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292690-nephilim-as-thunderbolt/#findComment-3724314 Share on other sites
