Platoon tactics

Recommended Posts

I've used a quad-plasma MTCS, having them give themselves the twinlinking order...now that had epic potential...unfortunately, the result was epically bad... in spite of twinlinking, they managed to kill three members of the squad...three ones, followed by three ones on the reroll, followed by three failed armor saves!!!  Statistically, it should have gutted the Deathwing thundernator squad it landed next to...six hits, 5 wounds, the sergeant (5++) was closest...prolly 3/5 kills!  But instead, although I killed the sergeant, I also gutted myself, and the enemy squad went on to force a draw!

I prefer to run AC+GL. Especially now. You are right saying that AV14 will be seen on boards. Yet, 3 lascannon with BS3 is nothing. If you want that, invest in Vendettas to get twinlinked at least. We must not forget that all faction got the ''vehicule are scoring'', and so Rhinos and Wave Serpents etc. will all become more present. That means that AC is more than relevant.

I was just wondering if there was a reason people aren't taking Scion quad-melta squads?

It seems like a good option to me, BS4 makes a massive difference and the squad retains DS and move through cover even if you buy a TauroxPrime for fire support/putting another squad in after deployment.

Thanks for the great tips so far too :)

Also, i can absolutly say that most Marine players are adding drop pods and rhinos wherever they can. I know I am.

I agree on the AC/GL issue but I am sorta not convinced with not taken SWS. Sure, they are cheaper, but how much cheaper is the real draw. 60 points for 3 bs3 meltas (not counting transport because it's the same for everyone and they can jack a transport from the IS). Melta vets clock in at 90 points for 3 bs4 meltas and 90 points for 5 scions with 2 meltas.

Scions can DS so they are effectively the least expensive but also the least reliable. You can put them in a transport that was purchased by an IS, but at that point you could save 50% of the points and just get a SWS. I think that if you are tight on points, then SWS in transports can make for a very decent melta spam. While you are throwing super-scorers into the lion's den, it really depends on the list how much that matters. If you can muster 10+ super scorers, then I think you can throw a few to the wind.

With that in mind:

CCS, 3 melta, vox, Chimera ML/HF (not a warlord)

PCS, 3 melta, vox, Chimera ML/HF

2*IS, GL, AC, vox, Taurox

1*IS, GL, AC, vox

2*SWS, 3 meltas (in the 2 IS Tauroxes)

Take 2 psyflemen dreads and you'll see the part of the army that is in charge to de-mech the enemy with plenty s6-s8 long ranged dakka and meltas.

Put the Wyvern and all that other Jazz in charge of infantry slaughter.

But the SWS (and Wyvern) can be replaced with 2 basilisks, who can not blow up tanks but glance them to death, especially with prescience on them, from turn 1.

Never tried SWS or 'lisks yet, so that needs to be tested.
