Transports Tactica for a Tanith Force : In Need of Help

Greetings.

I'm building a Tanith force. I have a small force as of now (maybe 750) but I'm building enough to have 2000+ (have everything, just need to build and paint).

When I ''proxy'' with the rest of my guard for higher points game to have a better idea as to what to buy and do, I'm always having trouble with list building.

Since I want to do a light infantry thing, I don't want to use Tauros or Chimera. They don't fit, and even if they would, I hate the new Chimera (2 firing pts FTL). But everytime I tried doing either a gunline or a footslogg, it ended up baldy.

The rest of my army will be mostly artillery platform, wyverns, some ratlings count-as (snipers) and Command Squads for order. Now the problem is what to do with my Veterans (best suited for Tanith). I absolutly want to have 1-2 teams of sniper/lascannon (''heavy sniper'') for long range fluff shooting. As far as the rest goes, it would be intelligent to have some plasma/melta/flamer vets up front. But I don't know how to transport them. Flyers arrive too late, Tauros don't offer enough fire pts, so do the Chimera (anyway, who takes chimera now?). I'm puzzled as how to play my stuff. Centaur would be the greatest thing ever if it was not for the fact that its 5man. I tried it with my CCS and it was perfect. But I can't fit Vets team in there... Anyone got suggestion or idea ? I'm kind of at a loss.

I really don't want to use Tauros (fluff reason) and would prefer to not use the Chimera (game-based reason, in fluff they use some).  The best thing would be to still have those sick 4th Ed. rules where you could take ''light infantry'' and get infiltrate (which means outflank). That would solve everything : infiltrate snipers and plasma some place, ouflank those melta/flamer. But since that is not possible (unless I am lucky with the d3 ouflank IF I am able to get it on the Warlord Traits table), I need other alternative.

So I'm looking at suggestion of strategy, tactics, transports, allies/unbound shenanigans, etc. Fluff over rules for me, so if I can find a good transport of another army and ''count-as'' the vehicule for something very guardish (through unbound stuff), I'll do it if my army is more Tanith in the end.

EDIT : I thought about the CRASSUS ARMOURED ASSAULT TRANSPORT.  Is it any good ? I could fit a CCS + 3 vets squads with flamer/melta and do a drop by assault by turn 2 since it moves 12''.

What fluff stops you using the taurox as I would have thought that they'd be good in the desert?

As for chimeras, the fire points haven't affected me too bad as 2 specialist weapons are normally enough and I have swapped a melta for a hf now they are cheaper.

Flyers aren't that bad with reserve manipulation like a relay from various fortifications or a Officer of the Fleet.

Scout sentinels would be good for you with flanking imo.

Snipers are best in cheap sws and pcs as vets bs is better suited to having better weapons especially with the sniper nerf.

Hope some of this helps

I think you might be restricting yourself too much for the fluff? Snipers just aren't a good use of valuable Veteran special weapons, certainly in number. To run a light infantry force I think you'd be best suited to getting a lot of Vets on the table.

Maybe I can run without transport and with alot of Vets. Enough to make them live. Problem is getting to the objectives if they are across the board. You never have too many guys against stuff like War Walker or Wave Serpent.

Maybe I can give Chimeras another try in 7th. With 2 Melta/Plasma + 1 HF it can be usefull still.

Thanks for the input guys.

Chimeras benefit a lot from saturation like most transports, it's easy to get Chimera/AV12 chassis in a Guard list to do this... not so much in a light infantry list though. Maybe GW will do them justice with a supplement? Ok, so pigs might also fly but a Catachan supplement seems reasonable enough and perhaps that could be a viable alternative? A man can dream...

A thought I have had with this subject is to have ratlings do a count as snipers. BS4 and you can claim they've been on some planet or other so they are weaker (lower toughness) they are tanith so without Gaunt probably not the best listeners (leadership) etc. I don't know Ratlings seem to fill it for me. Plus flyers I think would work just fine there was the book that had them air drop in. Not in Valk's admittedly but can't have it all. As has been stated flyers aren't too restricting with reserve manipulation plus there is also the scene in one of the books where the Vultures come in and provide fire support.

Anyway its a thought but it is expensive.

Transports are important because they can potentially double the amount of super-scorers on the field and give you much needed mobility and some extra fire power. Do not dismiss the Taurox. It isn't a tank. It's an armoured jeep, perfect all-terrain vehicle. You can use with with your Tanith, it will fit very well in my eyes. You can also stick your vets into Valks and deploy Tauroxes empty to have some scoring units and TLAC fire on the field turn 1.

Well Ravel I would say if you like the Taurox use it. It may not be in the fluff but remember the books that have come out so far were probably written prior to the Taurox coming out in the Codex. My personal belief would be that Tanith may use a Taurox to get to the front lines (standard transport type stuff) but I doubt they would do much fighting in them.

However I am also in the Air Force so I have a lot of love for flyers. That being said if you like the Taurox and think it would go well it is your army. Write your own bit of fluff about how Gaunt acquired them for such and such a purpose. Or even better a company of Tanith is on loan to another regiment as forward scouts etc.

Anything can be written to make sense for what you want.

Thanks Disciple (and everyone for that matter). I think the Taurox is the worst model design GW ever did. The only reason I wanted to use it is because I'm not a big fan of the chimera, and rulewise, I much prefer the Taurox. That being said, I'll probably go with the flyers because I like them both in look and rules. Unless my friends permits me to use a count-as for the Taurox.

Yeah I've seen some neat Taurox conversions. If you really want to be different try just using plain Valks. From what I can gather very few people use more than 2 anymore. It's not a vogue Vendetta and min maxing etc. I enjoy running what is against apparent internet wisdom. Last games I played with them they did pretty well just keep in mind its saturation of firepower like anything else with guard. I picked a target and just about every Valk fired at it. Wiped it out let the infantry fire at something else and moved on etc.

Another reason I have a problem with it is the Chimera seems so iconic to me and the Taurox just doesn't cut it as far as I'm concerned.

From a fluff stand point I can really see Valk's being used with a tanith force. Spec ops insertion force etc. Tanith infilitrating an area via Valkyries having to establish a "beachhead" fighting off whomever is in there AO and then going all sneaky sneaky towards their objectives however many Kilometers away.

Obviously your version of Tanith is going to be different and I have my secret agenda to convert all B&C Astra folk's into hybrid Air Cav people muahahahahahahahahhahaha!
