Pre-heresy World Eaters

Recommended Posts

I have my eye on a Spartan, but I have resolved to put some more boots on the ground this month, and I do need an hq. Which in the excitement of tank weathering I seem to have forgotten about.

The chainaxes did have a bit of flash around the teeth but as I paint that area with a bit of blood it means any bits that get missed just look like gore.

Some new stuff on the desk for this week, a mortis dread WIP and look ! some more actual marines. Well one more marine, more marines to follow, I might mix in some of the new upgrade heads, they dont seem out of place on Mark 3 plate. I have also just picked up a pack of praetors. The termintaor one i plan on doing stock and maybe magnatising the weapons and the power armour guy might end up as a consul/chaplain conversion

The strong choices are normally things like Master of Signal to buff a shooty squad, Primus Medicae in TDA to give FNP to terminators (or with a jump pack for some variety of assault troops), Forge Lord for some kind of relentless conversion beamer shenanigans or melee build (comes with artificer and an extra powerfist attack, plus cyber familiar allows him to get a 2+/4++ save in artificer or tartaros or a 2+/3++ save in cataphractii).

If you still want to bring a Chaplain, they make good units to boost an assault with (that Fearless for their squad is a big help in melee).  They come with a power weapon which can be a sword, axe, or mace (not limited to mace-only like in 40k).  Even if World Eaters didn't have (m)any Chaplains, you could still field him, but just call him a standard Consul - who happens to be a harsh disciplinarian, whose men know that retreat is not an option when he stands among them.

Legion Champion sounds pretty fluffy for a World Eaters gladiatorial-champion-of-the-pits kinda guy.  It's not a terribly worthwhile upgrade (only gives +1 WS and Mastercrafting for one weapon for 35 points), but it's also not a lot of points in the grand scheme of things.

I'm assuming you're doing a lot of this painting with an airbrush?  Do you have any tips for achieving a similar white with just brushes?

I think my advice would be get a good solid coat on the bascoat. If you can get it clean and solid then there will be a good contrast with the weathered bits. White I have found is an unusual colour in that it has no highlight stage when painting power armour, I would try a good white spray, like gw s undercoat spray and maybe go for two light sprays rather than one heavy coat for speed or two/three thin coats with a brush. I only got my airbrush at xmas having been a life long brush guy and it opens up some great oppotunities on the vehicles but for the infantry its more about speed and batch painting. At the recent heresy weekender mark bedford explained a two spray can technique that was a coat the whole model in a darker colour ( does army painter have medium/ dark spray ? ) then spray from 45 degrees top down with gw white spray. He showed it in a stage by stage,I thought it looked quite good.

Hope that helps.

Ah, I thought there was chaplain character in betrayer ? But I admit its a year since I read it so I could have remembered it wrong.

You are thinking the last nineteen remaining Librarians of the XII Legion. And what a sad end they came to. :(

But the only Chaplain to appear in Betrayer was that whoreson Erebus.

Yes, the moment people said Erebus i knew i had mis-remebered (is that word ?) i suspect that the character in the dim part of my memory is the destroyer sergeant which i had changed in my mind to a chaplain. i might go and dig out betrayer and have a refresh !

I got both praetors together, the terminator one is now in many magnatized bits. The power armour guy is below...

consul wip

I went for a cool conversion rather than anything that made huge sense rules wise ( the terminator guy can be that guy) This power armoured guy will pull double duty as a 40k captain when I intend to use them in that system sometimes at tournaments In which case a power fist and the teeth of terra would be his armament.

My legions first tournament outing will actually be at the forth coming battle brothers event at warhammer world, with my oppo providing some knight support. I am going with codex marines with the chacardons chapter trait. Not very competative but very fluffy i thought( Fear, extra close combat weapons, rage once you kill something and only desperate allies). For friendly games etc though i will obvious use the 30k list.

Here he is...

He is a bit of a pain to photgraph, no angle seems to quite be right. But he is done and ready to bust some heads next in a couple of weeks. Now just got to finish 5 tac marines, a rapier heavy bolter and a mortis dread in time ....... (and not start thinking i am any where near the stage of looking at some mechanicum allies, damn you forgeworld with your thanatar....)

There is a blood pool around the axe head but the photo hides it a bit. I am frantically painting at the moment for next weekends tournament, half way through the last of the tac marines and now with a finished mortis dread ....

I might have over weathered the feet a bit they merge into the base.. he looks a bit stunted !
With everthing done I am off to warhammer world tomorrow and I was going to pick some stuff up, I was thinking about some destroyers what are peoples opinions on destroyers in game terms, 5 man or 10 and jump packs or not ??? In addition I fancy adding a moriat to go with them but should he be white armour or black like the destroyers in betrayal ???

The general consensus on Destroyers is that they are expensive for their value and are something of a waste if not fielded properly.

As for painting them, they should be a heavily corroded black with subdued markings. Destroyers are described to wield chem and rad weapons with such a lingering taint that mere proximity to them causes aggressive cancers to Legionaries and damage to their armor. To accurately represent this, I would paint them in matte black and highlight/chip with gunmetal and steel. Another creative technique is to put small splotches of glue on their armor and then dip them in fine salt/sugar. The glued-on salt-sugar can then be painted black. This gives the effect of heavy corrosion/rust.

Good luck.

Cancel that,got it working

The vindicator was a lovely model to paint, as with most newer forgeworld models the quality was right up there. i only had to bend a few pieces in warm water and it went together nicely.

I finished the sicaran last week also.

I am loving painting the tanks. Next up though a few more boots on the ground.

so when did the world eaters meet the clone troopers and start stealing their junk? either way it's a theft i'd like to see happen more often!

Yeah, I thought a while ago that my paint scheme is a bit gothic clone trooper mash up with extra blood !

We got back from the battle brothers having had a great time and I will put a full post up soon but the event review is up and we got a nomination for best army which was nice along with the sicaran won the engine of legend !

I will do a full write up soon. I have been busy this week building a spartan, its a bit of a marathon !!!

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi

Its a been a while, i have had some stuff on, I meant to write up a report on the battlebrothers but two weeks of work and life have dulled my memory !

Next time, photos lots of photos to jog the memory. in essence we had a great time and had some very hard fought battles coming a respectable 20 out of 49, which considering we lost 4 out of 5 games is pretty good going. I like the rolling points format of battebrothers it means when you have some close good games like we did and say lose 6-7 then you still take the 6 forward.

I did enter into a good discussion into how to represent 30k WE in 40k we did debate the merits of black templars against chachadons ( which is what i used) i know its a moot point as really this is a 30k force but heresy armies are an expensive time consuming thing so being able to dual role them is a nice bonus.

But on with the show...

My spartan WIP, its been a bit of a marthon, spartans are a bit of pain to build ! Which i knew before i started so it wasn't a massive surprise, but even being forewarned the tracks were a pain, so early on i just decided to cut one section of track out of the bottom to give it space to fit together, yes there is gap but i figure its on the bottom.
