The Bastion, how do you guys tackle it?

Played a little one day tourney at the weekend, had great fun, but was looking at the table next to me, which had Broadsides in a Bastion, and I was thinking, if I had to play that Tau army, I would be in some serious trouble, as I have nothing to take it out.

So, what do you guys do against the Bastion??

Cheers

I rarely see broadsides with skyfire and interceptor, so my stormraven w/ TLMM and TLLC is usually a good option. additionally, we have access to melta through henchman (who can be delpoyed via the stormraven or valk if you're using inquisition). Then there's also psycannons who can rend them down. Dreadknights can also beat it to death. Honestly, bastionsides are a pretty rough matchup for us, so be sure you have multiple avenues of approach.

Just so I'm clear on how these rules (skyfire and interceptor) work in the new edition:

Skyfire means you can fire normally at flying targets, and can only fire snapshots against ground targets.

Interceptor means you can make an interception shot if an enemy unit arrives from reserve within your maximum range.

However, a model with skyfire can ONLY EVER fire snapshots against a ground target. The caveat that the Interceptor rule allows Skyfrire weapons to fire at ground targets without penalty is gone, isn't it? At least, I can't find it in the new rules.

So, if those Broadsides had skyfire, you could just walk up to them and punch them in the face, right?

You look at their bastion model.   Unless they used more then 1 bastion kit, if they put a door on it, it WILL have at least 1 side with only 1 or with no firepoints.   usually that side will be the door, and as far back in their DZ as possible.  Thats where you assault in with a squad with a hammer or 2.  Easy?  no.   Doable, Yes.

Snap shots, but rolling a "6" on 5 shots is not bad. Next turn, you should be able to shoot on normal BS. It's a one-trick pony, though!

Those servitors are also going to need an inquisitor to prevent mind-lock. Also, you'll probably never get to fire it at full ballistic skill. With nearly every unit in the tau arsenal toting at least S5, those AV10 sides on the chimera are going to crumple fast. Honestly, you'd have a better chance with a techmarine w/ orbital strike. The lance strike is S10 AP1 w/ lance, and with some prescience to help get the smallest scatter possible, you might be able to bring it down.

Can you charge units inside a Bastion? If so, just apply Dreadknight to them like normal. If not, you'll need to hack the building apart first.

RD, no... the closest you can do is use grenades, or flamers, or damage the building... Or bring it crashing down around their ears. Lol
