Hail all!

I've got resin problems! I'm assembling my Elysians and they are very nice and all, but some parts are, of course, warped. No problems, I'll just submerge the bits in hot water for a minute or so, bend into shape, and then let it cool off, settling into it's new shape... No biggie.... or so I thought!

As it turns out, the bits I straighten slowly resume a (less) bended shape again after som time. Even if I try to speed up the cooling process by dipping the warm bit into cool water, while holding the new shape in place, the gun-barrel or whatever slowly bends back.

It's really frustrating to keep doing the same thing over and over again, and not get the result I'm looking for. And especially frustrating because som bits (namely, the punisher cannons on my Vulture) are already glued on, because I though they were straight and now... oh so slightly bend again... grrr..

So, I ask of you, clever modellers; is it just the way of resin, or can I actually get the shape I want without having to re-bend the bits every now and then?

Thanks for reading!

For bending resin parts, I much prefer using a hair dryer to hot water. For starters it’s a lot less messy (as long as you’re careful which way you point it smile.png) and it doesn’t have the problem of cooling down while you’re still fiddling with the parts.

I've used boiled water that was just cool enough that I didn't get burned from sticking my fingers in it. I'm just a little scared that I'd end up with a spagethi gun-barrel... Maybe it's just that I need to get my nerves reigned in...

regarding the hair dryer. I've read that it was great for this particular job. The problem is that I get most my modeling work done when my daughter (4mths) sleeps, so a hair dryer is just gonna wake her up. But the the two ladies of the house are out for a meeting with the other local moms, so I'll try the hair dryer today when I have the house for myself :)

thanks!

I've held both Forge World resin and Finecast in a pan of boiling water until you could tie knots in it (note: unless you're building a titan, that's probably still less than a minute), and never lost any detail. Then, once the position is set, straight in the freezer with a mini electric fan to cool it as quickly as possible.

You probably have a bunch of bits of off-cut gate and sprue. If you're worried about damaging the models, experiment with that until you have a sense of how far you can push it.

That is very reassuring! thank you! I'll boil some water immediately smile.png

oh, and totally agree with your signature!
