*Furyou Miko
I have a huge problem with it when it's being worn in place of the Chaplet Ecclesiasticus. However, I can clearly see that the chaplet worn by this Sister is a Chaplet - it has spikes instead of bars, and has been set onto a circle. I have no problem with a Sister who is seconded to an Inquisitorial warband wearing the symbol of the Inquisition, as long as its not being used instead of her true allegience! Brother-Chaplain Kage
I... wow, I never knew the name of the Chaplet Eccclesiasticus. Ok then. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292995-sob-conversions/page/2/#findComment-3742254 Share on other sites
Dread
Nice work so far. I like your take the sisters and applaude all the hours you are spending in doing it. Looking forward to seeing more. Brother-Chaplain Kage
Oh, I didn't mean the sneer should be fixed. Edit: Looking back I seem to be suggesting the sneer should be or needs to be fixed, I merely meant to suggest that if the designer didn't want the sneer it could be resolved. I actually have no problem with it... Sorry if I caused any upset/trouble. No worries, no harm done, and no offense taken. If I didn't want feedback on these as I worked on them, I'd wait until they were finished before posting pics; I've always found that other eyes notice things mine don't and I've frequently gotten good suggestions on changes that worked out better for the figure. Nice work so far. I like your take the sisters and applaud all the hours you are spending in doing it. Looking forward to seeing more. Your wish is my command... So, I dug around until I located the Umbra combi-bolter from that FW boarding marine. The miscasting issues weren't quite as bad as I remembered, and luckily, most of it is on the left side of the bolter. I think it works really well. http://i.imgur.com/oOmRtyq.png I've also started on a respirator head for the Seraphim, blending in the Cadian bit so it looks a little more natural than the bit just glued onto her face, as well as trimming down the long xenos toe armor. http://i.imgur.com/X8hWkIs.png I think I'll remove her from the base and straighten up the legs a little bit, so she's more properly vertical. I tried to heat up the wings so I could bend them into a different pose, but that didn't work very well and I nearly broke one of them. Teetengee
Not really in universe (at least not for you "good guys") but I think that would look really cool with the hands just sort of floating, rather than attacked to the torso, I think it has to do with the star feeling I get from the torso right now. thinks about how to properly chaosify.... I really think the respirator looks great btw. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292995-sob-conversions/page/2/#findComment-3742764 Share on other sites

That's a cool idea, but sounds exceptionally heretical... ~gasp~ Heresy! (awesome greenstuff work!) Thanks! So, got work done on the sleeves, back of the habit-thingy, a skull for the thing on her chest that the hoses connect to for God-Emperor knows what reason(which you can barely see from the angles of the photos), and trying out a backpack from a chopped up marine version. http://i.imgur.com/w8UU6Ni.png I'm about 80% on the right sleeve and quite a bit less on the left one. It just wasn't cooperating with me for some reason. I think the finish line is in sight now; not too much left to do on this one. Duke Danse Macabre
Out of curiosity as I am about to have to do this myself, how do you sculpt the hair on your models? I need to give Valkia long hair and its going to be a night mare. *Furyou Miko
The smaller backpack looks good, but freehanding a sigil sororitas on it is going to be a nightmare and a half. Personally, I just call the 'habit-thingie' a robe. :p It might be a bit late to say it, though, since blending onto dried green stuff is a pain, but its actually supposed to be continuous. If you look at the Sisters models, even the Seraphim, the robe goes all the way around and is only slit because it's been unbuttoned (the Seraphim have unbuttoned it on both sides, the regular Sisters only seem to have one set of buttons). Brother-Chaplain Kage
Out of curiosity as I am about to have to do this myself, how do you sculpt the hair on your models? I need to give Valkia long hair and its going to be a night mare. The first thing I would suggest is to gather up some reference material, namely other minis with sculpted hair that you like, and keep it close by. I have one of the old metal sisters, sans backpack, that I've kept around through this whole thing to help me stay true to the original look, and the hair helped. First I mixed up some GS and stuck it on the head, pushing it around with my fingers until I got into the rough shape I wanted. Now, from experience, I can do this without needing to anchor the GS to the head, and if you keep pulling the whole thing out of position(or completely off of the head) while moving it around with your fingers and/or sculpting tools, then I would suggest you use a small dot of superglue on the top of the head to anchor the GS in place. Make sure to do this in a spot where you won't be making a part in the hair. Once I had the general form of the hair down, I used the flat side of my flat chisel clay shaper to even out the fingerprints and lumps and get a smooth, clean finish to the GS. Be sure to use plenty of lubricant for your sculpting tool whenever smoothing to help prevent leaving tool marks. After that, it was simply taking a thin metal edge, in my case, the top, dull edge of an X-Acto and slowly, carefully making depressions in the GS to mark out the individual clumps of hair. I stress carefully, because if you push too hard, you'll deform the whole shape of the hair in that area. To help keep my hand steady for this part, I tucked my arm in close to my side, then turned my chair so I was pressing the outside of my arm against the side of my desk, effectively locking it place. The smaller backpack looks good, but freehanding a sigil sororitas on it is going to be a nightmare and a half. Personally, I just call the 'habit-thingie' a robe. It might be a bit late to say it, though, since blending onto dried green stuff is a pain, but its actually supposed to be continuous. "Robe" Ok. I can work with that. (Blending into dried GS isn't that bad if you use a rounded, convex metal tool. I can't seem to do it very well with the clay shapers, but it's a snap with a metal tool.)
