Emperor's Furor
They were black originally weren't they? Did they change to red after the treachery? I'm looking at the FW Erebus model and they've done him in red so I'm wondering if I should do mine in red with gold trim as well. Relict
Word Bearers were the first to institute the Chaplains and yes, as far as I know they are clad in black. For Erebus, if you want to be faithful to the book, he has been described multiple times as being clad in black (as late as Betrayer). I think he would look most spiffy in black with the runes on his armor highlighted in gold. But that's just me. Kol Saresk
But in the earliest mentions of him way back when in False Gods and Galaxy In Flames, he wears red. And since those earliest depictions served as his inspirations, that served as his colors. So, "being faithful to the book" strongly depends on which book you are being faithful to. Tenebris
Consider that "livery" was a flexible concept in the Horus Heresy era. Many of the influential characters in the legions had their own heraldry and some iconic units too, so while the norm could be that all chaplains are clad in black, important figures like Kor Phaeron and Erebus were above the norm. As I see it, some minor chaplains could very well had their own heraldries. Kol Saresk
And not to mention that the various campaign badges and iconography used to represent one's Chapter or "home fleet" as well as anything they picked up from their homeworlds would result in a massive variety throughout the entire Legion. There was probably a Chaplain with a blue arm because his Chapter fought alongside the World Eaters in the extermination of a craftworld. Chiv
In the first heresy novels he wore word bearer grey when he was with the luna wolves, and then shifted to red. never saw a mention of him in black. sitnam
Word Bearers were the first to institute the Chaplains and yes, as far as I know they are clad in black. Actually even this is partially up in the air. In First Heretic they seem to transfer to black after the events of Monarchia. In HH: Massacre they seemed to of worn black even as the old Imperial Heralds Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293024-word-bearer-chaplains/#findComment-3732368 Share on other sites
Kol Saresk
And Erebus himself is described as wearing grey and red(that I can remember off the top of my head) and black(if Relict is correct on the Betrayer references). Emperor's Furor
So it would be ok to go with red and silver/gold then for a chaplain? I'm thinking of using one of the current models with a Word Bearer shoulder pad and want him to look different to normal 40k chaplains so perhaps the red would emphasise this. Knight of the Raven
You know those fancy rings that change color depending on your mood? Well Erebus has a mood armor. Emperor's Furor
Do you think they'll bring out a general chaplain model for the HH? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293024-word-bearer-chaplains/#findComment-3732637 Share on other sites
marine7312000
I honestly think that it is unlikely that they will bring out a Chaplain model specifically for the heresy. I would love to see one, chaplains are my favorite characters, but I don't expect to see one.
