Pyro X
so I decided that I wanted to make 2 full blown platoons just so I can litter the field with an unnecessary amount of models. so that being said, I think I'm not going to do a display board just because it would take lots of time and money that I could be using on the models themselves. This is where I'm at atm. I think the bases are working out well and I got a command squad on bases and 10 25mm ones finished as well as 4 heavy weapons. (OMG so many left to do) here are the pics. I trying to think of other items I can put onto the bases as well just so I got lots of different looks. any ideas? march10k
Very nice chocolate chip! Discarded bits of gear might look nice on a few of the bases. march10k
If you can get hold of some...there is a scorpion that would look huge (the size of a house cat, at this scale), but ever so appropriate, on the tomb kings sphinx sprue. Idlem
Make sure you seal the bases, as that ground effect chips off really easy. ...and you make me want to strip all my bases and redo them. Those look wonderful. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293086-ig-progress-basing-updated-7162014/#findComment-3732358 Share on other sites
Pyro X
If you use ink or shade in the cracks will work as glue to keep them in place Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293086-ig-progress-basing-updated-7162014/#findComment-3732485 Share on other sites
WarriorFish
These bases are really good! How long did they take to do? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293086-ig-progress-basing-updated-7162014/#findComment-3732515 Share on other sites
David Ravel
I like them ! I'm gonna steal that wheel trace on the ground idea. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293086-ig-progress-basing-updated-7162014/#findComment-3732543 Share on other sites
Pyro X
Modeling and greenstuff was about 2 hours for 50 rounds 25mm and the 3 60mm. Painting took about an hour not counting time for stiff to dry. WarriorFish
The correct term is "inspired by" David ;):P That's pretty speedy work, must really help getting lots of troopers done. I hope we can see you producing more soon :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293086-ig-progress-basing-updated-7162014/#findComment-3733134 Share on other sites
CoffeeGrunt
Any tips on how to achieve the tire track effect? It would suit my Armoured Company nicely! :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293086-ig-progress-basing-updated-7162014/#findComment-3733151 Share on other sites

Pyro X
the steps to doing the tank treads on the bases. 1. apply the green stuff to the base (thin is preferred) 2. apply water to the tank tread then press it into the base and push it around on the base so it looks like the tank slid a little in the mud and to make it easier to remove after pressing in in the base. also note that you will want to smooth down the GS on the sides to make it blend in with the base itself, their will be lines in the mud that look odd. you will want to remove the treads right after you press them and while its still wet or it will mess up the base if you wait till its dry. you will want to use resin, GS, or something else in the middle if their is a molding "dot" in the middle or the base will also look odd. you will also note the amount of tech paint it takes to make the mud effect look good, be ready to buy a lot of these paint pots if you wanna do this. here are some of the bases I had done with GS. 10 bases ready to be inked. very important note, the inking is one of the most important things about these bases staying together. I use a lot of ink on the bases with lots of cracks because it goes in the cracks and helps seal the mud to everything else. I wouldn't water it down unless you have something else that is going to help keep this stuck to the bases. another set of bases ready for models ( to be painted still =( ) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293086-ig-progress-basing-updated-7162014/#findComment-3746606 Share on other sites

Thoqqu
Very nice looking bases! I was wondering, do you just glue the models onto that or do you pin them? Vash
Good to see players put some effort into their bases! It really improves the model it self. Big thumbs up from me. Pyro X
I just glue them down to the base, I could do pinning but I don't know if I would mess up the small IG legs. lionofjudah
I use a smallish, 1/8" dot of GS and a dab of CA glue to hold my minis to the bases... Pinning IG feet is a tricky feat ;) for sure Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293086-ig-progress-basing-updated-7162014/#findComment-3750585 Share on other sites
