Question about Salamander Pyroclasts Models

Hello all, I had a question for anyone who has bought a set of Salamander Pyroclasts.

Would they kitbash well with a regular mark 3 set? I have this hopefully not too heretical idea in my head of using them as Sternguard in a 40k Salamanders army but I'd need to reequip all but two (left as heavy flamers). That means new arms and backpacks at the least.

I think it should work nicely, though mine are stuck together now so I can't check that the bolter arms will rest naturally across their chest. as you can see from Anaziel's picture, the shoulder pads are sculpted onto the arms, so you won't get a legion shoulder pad on all of your guys without some butchery, or and extra set. Post some pictures if you do it - I'd love to see what they look like.

I dont have hh book2 and was wondering why they all have the hand towel over their face

It's drakeskin draped over the face* to increase protection (and to look cool). Mail has been used in this fashion when the wearer didn't have a fully-enclosed helmet for centuries, possibly millenia. I think it even happened in the first world war. One of the Isle of Blood swordsmasters has scale protecting his face, too.

*Or maybe even over the helmet faceplate, because there is no protect like overprotect.

I suppose they wear it over the faceplate so as to still being able to protect themselves from toxins and in void warfare. Atleast that makes most sense, but then again we are talking about superhuman warriors equivalent to walking tanks.

The Salamanders are very much connected to their world, so there is a possibility that the drakeskin masks cultural take-away from Nocturne that never faded. A symbol of elite warriors amongst the natives of that world, perhaps.

Thanks alot guys! It looks easy enough, assuming the bolter arms fit over the chest plate. Should pads are no issue. I have a ton of FW Salamanders pads.

Even if the arms are an issue the worst that can happen is I have a unit of pyroclasts and 5 mark 3 guys. I can add them to the odd 30k model I paint from my extra forge world stuff from time to time. At my current rate I'll have a small army sometime around the time the Black Library books reach Terra. So, maybe 2050 :p

I'll definitely post pictures when they're finished, although it could be a while. I was hit by some big medical expenses for the family pet this month but my birthday is in August so I'll definitely order them by then. Gives me some time to decide whether to go for my usual brighter warpstone green paint scheme or something muted...
