Army Direction Help

Recommended Posts

Greetings Brothers,

Looking for some help in moving my force forward, I am kind of at a loss regarding direction.

Firstly, a little background information. I play against a few armies regularly and although we aren't massively competitive to begin with, we like to get things right and the tempo has kind of been upped recently. So mainly I play against Ork horde (although changing toward speed freakz), Necrons (they scare me the most) and soon a Tau list. So would kind of like an army that can be versatile yet hit hard.

As for what I already have, 2 Leman Russ Battle Tanks, 1 Basilisk, 1 Valkyrie, 1 Chimera, 3 heavy weapons teams and enough troops for now.

At first I was thinking an elite assault based unit and that led me to Militarum Tempestus. I was thinking of one unit of 5 with a Tauros prime. So to the questions regarding this, can you attach a commissar to them and what would be a good load out? Also, would they be better than vets?

Second option was to go with more armour route, although the Necrons terrify me if I do this. My idea was to get maybe another Russ and have a tank commander HQ, maybe also get either another basilisk or other ranged back up or some devil dogs, I quite like the fast tanks.

I am also open to other possible ideas, any questions to help narrow it down fire away. I am all ears.

Brother Mitch

Wyverns. proxy if you have to. I consider them a must take because of their low cost and effectiveness against infantry.

Edit: scions would be nice too, but you must have a purpose for them, such as deep strike meltas or some kind of plasma assassination squad. Everything you are fighting against will have some kind of counter to your forces, like gauss or lance weapons, but these have their drawbacks, like cost or range.

I second the Wyvern. I usually run 2 in a squadron. Scions are too expensive to be the main stray. Keep it at deep strike shenanigans. With Move Through Cover they can DS into terrain just fine. Get some more LR tanks, av14 is strong right now. I recommend Demolisher, Executioner, Eradicator and Pask Punisher.

+1 for Wyverns. Just magnetize the barrels so you can run them as hydras too. More chimeras, they are super scoring in 7th and they have some advantages over a turdbox. Like AV12, give orders while embarked, and can carry 12 bodies. Pask goes well with the vanquisher or the punisher. 1 is great for long range tank hunting and the other is massive amounts of firepower at close range. Basilisks are best in pairs or triples so another one or two would be a good addition finally you can never have to many bodies so more grunts cant hurt. The Scoin models can make some excellent carapace armored vets.

2 Wyverns in a squadron with an enginseer for split fire... 170 pts for awesomeness.

Not necessary. You want both to fire at one full squad. That way enough wounds can be hoarded to wipe them out in one shooting phase. If you split fire or take them separate, you can kill a part of 2 units, potentially removing the chunky parts and thus reducing the potential targets of the Wyvern next turn. Better to have one squad completely dead than 2 half dead (in most cases).

To each their own! I had great luck doing this in game against a Daemon farm Sunday. (And I didn't say you had to do it every turn) But trust me, at some point you are going to wish you had that option available to you during a game. But one more reason this is important for me is I run my IG as an allied detachment. So it's like two heavy support choices.
