Easy way to remove marine backpack?

Recommended Posts

It all depends on what type of glue it was. If it was plastic glue, I would abandon all hope of getting the backpack off intact, assuming both the backpack and the model itself are plastic. If it was cyanoacrylate(super glue), it should be fairly easy to pry off. If you don't mind re-painting the whole model, dip it in Fairy Power Spray or equivalent paint remover, it should weaken the glue.

I haven't had any problems removing backpacks secured by plastic glue. Usually the nub on the back of the model remains attached to the backpack (so both the backpack and the back of the model are "flat"), but I have never experienced any damage that was visible after the backpack had been replaced. Can be a bit of a fiddle getting the replacement backpack on straight/square but I found it easy enough.

As has been already said, you'll probably need to cut /wedge the pack off off you've used plastic glue. If, however, you've used super glue, freezing the model will make the superglue brittle and all the easier to pull off.

Also I suggest magnetizing this time so that you can swap them at will in the future.

Actually, as an afterthought, you could magnetize a suitably teleporter-looking bit to the top of your current packs, meaning you wouldn't need to remove them.

Cheers,

Jono

I've had more issues with breakage on backpacks than most any other parts, regardless of whether plastic cement or super glue was used.

I find it easiest to remove them by putting your thumb on the torso and index finger at the top of the pack and squeezing and they come off all too easily.  Only time I ever had any part on any backpack break was a FW apothecary, which already had a poor cast and has lots of added dongles.

if they were glued using super-glue ( game workshop clear glue that binds your finder almost instantly if you get some on them), and it won't come off by prying, just put the model in the freezer for an hour or so. it will crystalized the glue and make it more brittle, thus easier to break off by prying.

beware thought, the plastic might get a little more brittle, pry only on solid surface, and not on edge or small details

good luck
