Potential alternate HH Alpha Legion models

Recommended Posts

Just be trawling through various alternate model sites and found these quality (in my opinion) models from anvil-industry.

I'm not aware of the scale, but these sites generally stick to GW size from my knowledge. But they seem to have cool looking power armour, that seems nimble and agile. The guns look similar enough to boltguns. Some models come with stuff that looks like combi-weapons. Cane get Autocannons, Missile Launchers and Sniper Rifles. And something that maybe just could get away with Heavy Bolter or a Rotary Cannon.

I know they're slightly expensive even compared to Forge-World resin. But maybe could work brilliant for Headhunters etc.

Opinions?

Dragonlover used some for his ETL vow (chaos).

Maybe send him a message for him to take a comparison shot. But they do indeed appear to be correct scale. The heavy weapon guys in particular look like pretty ace sculpts.

From a fluff perspective, the Alpha Legion is perhaps the most "unconventional" of the Eighteen Legions. They were able to field their own variant of the Mark VI Corvus power armor without the knowledge of the Imperium at large. Alpha Legion combat teams (those who work specializing in sabotage, assassination, and other varieties of subterfuge) already have an established history of using aliases and heraldry known only to themselves - it would not be an impossibility for them to use customized armor (possibly incorporating archaic/xenos tech).

Go for it! :D

Anvil Industry stuff is fantastic, although I dont like the aesthetics of their marines, that is only a personal opinion, and not a negative against the design of the model itself. The sizing is perfect both for the marines and the bits for conversion.

I have used their bits extensively to create my Recon marines; Heads, Shoulder Pads, Cloaks, Sniper Rifles. Also used the spare magazines and silencers to help create weapons for my Seekers.

Yup, they're in scale. Closer to FW than GW because they're standing up straight.

Oh, i like the sniper team! I wonder if the back packs are removable on the other sets or if they all come in one piece except for the heads.

the models come exactly how you'd buy a FW set.  single piece torso, the legs, a pack, a head, pair of pads, pair of arms.  guns are all sold separately so you can choose what you want.  buying guns, you can choose to have straight, banana clip, box, or barrel style clips provided with the guns.  he has his own version of melta, plasma, and flamer weapons.  he also has one he describes as akin to a railgun, which could proxy as a gravgun or volkite charger for 30k.  if you're buying his bolter variants, there's a'normal' and 'short' version of each gun; the 'short' one is the same size as a GW bolter.  the normal one adds another 5mm or so to the gun.  very helpful if you intend to add the optional gun mods, like his bayonets (mini chainswords, they look great), or grenade launchers (in case you'd rather say thats how your marines are tossing grenades)

he also has scopes, and laser targeters and bipods you can add to the guns.

i've used anvil industry models in the past, and they are of FW quality.  in some ways better, because there's much less flash and mold line cleanup to do before assembly, and his releasing agent isnt as greasy and hard to clean off as the FW one, so you can get to painting that much faster.

also, he started doing something for a few years now that GW and FW are only beginning to do themselves now; arm pairs are marked on the inside of the shoulder socket to tell you which left goes with which right so the poses line up properly.  he just uses little holes in clusters of 1 to 5 to mark his instead of a numeral though. (yes; each arm set has 5 different poses; lots of customizing and unique poses possible there)

I echo the recommendations. Their weapon sets alone are amazing. The Black Ops I'm planing on getting for Mor Deythan unless actual ones come out before.

The Black Ops would make great Pre-Heresy/Loyalist AL due to the MKVI not coming out for a while as a "stealth" variant for MKIII and up. Though they did get some MKVI along with the RG before anyone else... ... ...

So yes, go for it regardless of timeline because awesome.

I like the Anvil Industries Black Ops guys quite a lot. I saw a thread on another forum where a guy mixed them with GW arms, weapons, and backpacks; the result looked good.

I really hope when we start getting Alpha Legion upgrade packs & characters they look more like the Black Ops guys mixed with Destroyers and the SoH/DG upgrades rather than Snakey McSnakeman raided Serpentor's closet.
