Do Forgelords get a power axe for free?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering, I'm converting a forgelord model out of the master of signal from FW and the pose its in means he's looking down at a control panel on his wrist, and around his belt he has alt kind of technical items. This kind of limits what weaponry I can give him.

I was just wondering though whether by default he has a power axe like a techmarine does, it notes he gets given a servo arm and artificer armour, but not power however however it then goes on to say it can take additional wargear listed for the techmarine at the cost indicated. To me I'm on the side of him having to buy a power weapon rather than coming with the standard techmarine power axe, is that right? I'm just unsure.

Yes, he gets the power axe.

"Additional wargear listed for the techmarine on pg 197, may also be taken at the costs indicated."

Techmarine entry says the power axe can be exchanged for a thunder hammer for more points, so the Forge Lord has to come with the power axe in the first place to be able to upgrade it to a thunder hammer.

Hmm ok, I really don't want to model on my model though, just doesn't seem to fit any where.

What position is he in because if he is in a firing position or a static pose, you could try modelling the axe as if it is plunged in to the ground at his feet? An idea for you anyway!

It's this model with a different head, a metal servo arm backpack and a mk III shoulder pad. Going to give him the Iron Hands Sgt head from the FW Iron Hands infantry set and have him lead a unit of Castellax.

Aye, I imagine you could model it as if its plunged in to the ground whilst he checks on his mechanical gubbins - although how I see it in my mind and how it would look in reality are probably far apart (I have no modelling skills, only ideas).

This, I'm confident is incorrect:

The Legion Centurion wargear is: Power armour, Bolt pistol, Chainsword/blade, Frag and krak grenades

Forge Lord wargear states: Artificer armour, Servo-arm and can take additional wargear for the cost indicated in the Techmarine list.

As a Centurion he can purchase Centurion options, and as a Forge Lord he can take Techmarine options. At no point does it state he gets a power axe for free. Thus you would have to purchase a power axe as a Centurion option and then exchange it as a Techmarine option. It's cheaper just to buy the Centurion Thunder Hammer option by 5 points.

Yes reading this again you don't get the power axe straight off the bat as the rule would say the following if you did:

"Forge Lord wargear states: Artificer armour, Servo-arm, POWER AXE and can take additional wargear for the cost indicated in the Techmarine list."

It clearly doesn't state this.

I quoted it verbatim from the book for a reason: "Additional wargear listed for the techmarine on pg 197, may also be taken at the costs indicated."

It looks like a non-restrictive relative clause to me. If it was simply saying that you can buy the upgrades for the costs indicated, there's no reason for the comma to separate the clauses.

Brother I hate to be 'that guy' but your quotation in itself seals the deal - it states that (in layman's terms), he (as a Forge Lord) has access to the options listed as available to the other Techmarines... However his base kit is (unless stated otherwise like the Needle Pistol for the Primus Medicae or his own Servo-Harness) the same as that of a Consul - he can then buy certain extra upgrades allowed via his choice of being a Forge Lord. Otherwise we could argue all day on whether being a Forge Lord stops him being a Consul/Centurion...
