Your thoughts on Darkfire Cannons?

Recommended Posts

For my mainly foot based word bearer force I'm contemplating taking a forgelord with a cortex controller and some castelax's it was clear from my previous game I didn't have enough long range anti tank fire power, so it got me thinking of adding a contemptor with dual lascannons, however now I am considering taking one or two castellax's but with darkfire cannons instead of the standard mauler cannons. What's your opinion on them, that look good on paper especially when you can make them BS 5 and -1 cover save, but the over heating may be a problem considering its two shots as well.

3+ and 4HP say overheat is not going to be a big problem, even less if you add paragon of metal. if you take the DFC, definately take the targeting system. alltogether the loadout is very expensive and you might actually be better off with destructor tarantulas or predators for AT.

I want something with a bit more range, I tend to play dark eldar a lot and they tend to lower my range quite often, so bigger range and the -1 to cover would also be a huge bonus as well as letting me get 2d6 armour pen at 24" range. Basically I want to slowly advance whilst laying down a hale of fire. I also want to add a Contemptor with twin keres eventually.

Yikes.

Yeah the dark fire is pretty solid but I'd definitely throw the targeting array on them to get the +1 BS and -1 to cover save to prevent tanks from getting any kind of cover that negates your oh so expensive weapon.

Since it has blind too, use it against enemy AdMech to play havoc with their shooting or any other shooty unit in the backfield that wants to pop your Castellax
