Venemox
I've come to recognize the nicety of the Storm Bolter Acolyte, but where do you source the Storm Bolter bitz from? Or any other usefult Bitz? I'm getting Boltguns from Scout squads, Crusaders from Cygnar Sword Knights, Psykers from Fantasy and Malifaux (Hollow Waifs), DCA from Malifaux (Freekorps Librarians), Inquistors from Fantasy (particularly Empire Pistoliers) and Warmachine/Hordes characters. IndigoJack
I honestly don't know. One of the reason I only have boltguns on my acolytes is that I couldn't find stormbolters that didn't look ridiculous on them. Ozshock
the only stormbolters i know of are form space marines...yeh they do look a bit clunky but you should have plenty of spares from your strike squads to use those... one thing to do is to use the arm from the GKSS, it does look a bit big but you could model it to be a prosthesis or mechanical arm Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293343-sourcing-bits/#findComment-3738026 Share on other sites
Reclusiarch Darius
Space Wolf storm bolters ;) Not even joking. I picked up a packet of 30 online for like $10. Nobody wants or uses them who is a SW player, they barely field TDA Wolfguard anyway. For Henchmen models, I'm using the Cultists from the Dark Vengeance set. You can really use any human model though, Guardsmen are probably your other cheap infantry model option. Ozshock
im using the brettonian? men at arms for my acolytes/crusaders...Flagellants from Empire as my Psyker, swap out the heads for my DCA as well...and for my Jokaero, im using the Dust tactics Apes, get them in a box of 3 for like $15 instead of $22 each...FAR CHEAPER...little conversion work and BAM great model, and you get the paining points for conversions :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293343-sourcing-bits/#findComment-3738668 Share on other sites
thraxdown
I used my spare Grey Knight storm bolters, then used a cadian model. I used the trigger and the stock of the lasgun and attached it to the storm bolter and my acolyte uses it as a two handed rifle. Venemox
Apes from Dust tactics? Nice. I was already considering walking Leman Russes... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293343-sourcing-bits/#findComment-3738912 Share on other sites
Ozshock
yeh he does look a bit like an ape GW hasnt really been kind to inquisition over the last couple of years...Crusaders, Arco Flag, DCA, Psykers...all too gosh darn expensive to be buying for a full squad of them... think about this... $22 for 1x Jok - i use 2 in each squad with AT LEAST 2 squads...$88 $18 for 1x Plasma Serv - 2-3 in each squad of Jok...$72 - $108 $19 for 1x Psyker (Preacher) - minimum 2 needed...$38 so for JUST minimum troops...not including their transport...its almost $250 and that is almost the same points as a 5man GKSS with a psycannon and a DHammer and Halberd Just.(my minimum loadout) and the cheapest troop ANYONE can get is 18 points which will cost you $53...which is why we have to source these similar models so we can actually afford to be competitive... ill tally up a full squad of DCA/Crusaders...the assault squad DCA is $26 for 2 of them...making 6 of them $78...and you only get swords on them (inquisition codex is only swords though) Crusaders are $18 for 2...making 6 of them $54...only comes with swords...not sure if inquisition allow any power weapon? so full squad of 12 will cost you $151 which includes a Psyker (auto include for me) and gives a spare crusader...then ofc you need a delivery system...usually a LRaider or SRaven... its not cheap at all to build any of these squads...lets put that into perspective GKSS (5 of)...$55...can make purifiers/purgation and Interceptors as well GKT (5 of)...$74...can make Paladins as well...comes with ALL loadouts except only 1 Dhammer (same with the Strike box) and these units cover many more points than the Henchmen do...so do yourselves a favor and try to source second hand or other similar models... Reclusiarch Darius
I'd just go to any online bits store, and order what you need. For DCA, you really just need someone duel-wielding blades. For Crusaders, you can get cheap storm shield and axe bits, then put them on Cultists/Guardsmen Jokaero...I mean the official model is so sweet, but so $$$...I'm considering modding up a Cyclops from Forge World with a bunch of funky-guns for count-as. Usually I just proxy monkeys. Psykers can be anything really, they no wargear besides a laspistol.
