skeletoro
gotta say, power armour plus unwieldy plus must accept challenge would be pretty dumb. skeletoro
hypothetically if he is base strength 5 (as i said, stat block was very very fuzzy) or his axe was str +3 (couldn't make out str mod either) then he could potentially be striking at str 8 on the charge, meaning he'd pack a decent punch if he ever had a chance to strike back. Valerian
Pretty sure it's Runic, not just Power. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293384-space-wolves-ork-starter-box/page/9/#findComment-3743695 Share on other sites
Khine
Pretty sure in the descriptions that we've seen it says he's wearing runic armour..*Edit* Damnt Valerian, you bet me too it by a min. skeletoro
i don't think it outright says it explicitly. It just says something like his armour is a one of a kind masterpiece ... Which strongly suggests runic. On the other hand it LOOKED like it said power armour but it was hard to read that one and i am not confident (some of the other stuff was clear as day... Almost. Definitely furious charge, definitely melee/unwie/master crafted. Definitely no visible customization options for wolf guard, or for formation as a whole (it has specific named units). viddar
It does say he has runic armour iirc and in the wargear previews I can make out runic armour looks like its just a 2+ save now :( Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293384-space-wolves-ork-starter-box/page/9/#findComment-3743739 Share on other sites
Rune Priest Jbickb
Supposedly the gw pre orders in Australia are al ready sold out. Hope no one here missed out that wanted it. skeletoro
"above, left - Krom's armour is a one of a kind masterpiece with gilt edging." Perhaps there's another bit elsewhere that specifically says runic? Obviously the above does strongly suggest runic armour. For GW to describe it this way and not make it runic would be a weird and silly call on their part. Surprising, but certainly not impossible. As I said it's definitely possible I mis-read that bit as that part wasn't very clear. I'm not near the paper copy anymore. But is runic in the warmest list? I see power and terminator. And belt of Russ and storm shield? At least I think that is what I see By the way, if he's str 5 or his frost axe is +3 (and I'm not confident about either), arguably the frost axe is better for him in many cases than a power fist. Even just with str 4 and +2, you're looking at str 7 with furious assault. It doesn't ID marines sadly, and it doesn't cut through armour with ease, but it will wound most foes on a 2+. And there's that extra attack. So actually, it's not that bad. Also, these considerations are relatively moot with ICs because you have no control over their wargear. You've got to look at the total package including points cost. IF he's 155 (hard to read) then that seems like a pretty good deal. Amazing deal compared with our current dex though I'm sure we'll see character price drops in general. skeletoro
Also I'm not sure on the exact wording of the various rules, but it seems there might be a bit of redundancy in the special rules, which is a shame. Master-crafted: reroll one failed to hit. SotWB: reroll to hit in challenges. Formation bonus: some reroll in a certain context, but I am not sure whether it's to hit or something else. Cpt. Lacerus
I can't believe it's sold out already. Hopefully I can pick one up locally or at least get Krom. eBay scares me though. skeletoro
I don't think you're ever allowed to reroll twice. Isn't that one of the fundamentals? Or am i thinking a different system such as D&D? Grimtooth
had a look in store and made out some details. Phone keeps crashing before i can post... krom has warrior born which is now the challenge saga -reroll hits in challenge, something hard to read that probably said he must issue and accept? where is it stated that warrior born is now the challenge saga? I cannot find this on the FAQ. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293384-space-wolves-ork-starter-box/page/9/#findComment-3743886 Share on other sites
skeletoro
It's in the WD. What I could make out was something like ' Saga of tH3 ]n]/-\rR10r b@#%: &%#&$@&$#&$# must ©££€©©© challenge where possible $$%$@ in addition, #%%#@ reroll to hit rolls in a challenge.' ie I couldn't read it clearly but that's what I think the saga was called, and it definitely had something about rerolling to hit in a challenge following some other stuff that I surmise is the standard 'must always issue and accept wherever possible' clause. So assuming I read it right (I'm 75% confident that that's the name of the saga in the WD and that I didn't misread it) then it looks like SotWB is changing in the upcoming codex. In case anyone had any doubts, that pretty much would guarantee that the codex is getting updated very soon - if it was anything other than imminent, I don't think they would have deviated from the codex like this. Baulder
may have had base strength 5 but hard to read. terminators didn't seem to be special in any way. Couldn't read statline or points costs. Sergeant has frost blade which seemed to be ap3 melee, but couldn't read str mod. the formation includes those 3 packs specifically (not generic) so may be completely non customizable, as the wolf guard are. It gives furious charge and something else(presumably something to do with getting rerolla when you focus fire as mentioned in the battle report). er Looks to be +1s on frost blade. Also Krom only appears to be I4 but then if the axe is unweildy the I guess that won't matter. skeletoro
Hmm, seems implausible he'd be initiative 4. How sure are you? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293384-space-wolves-ork-starter-box/page/9/#findComment-3743930 Share on other sites
Dantay VI
I thought all wolf lords are/were Initiative 5. At least in the codex we currently have. What is the initiative of a standard Codex Captain, is that 4? skeletoro
Nope, pretty sure all the captain/lord type ICs are init 5+ while most other ICs are 4. Just checked c:sm.. it's true of every IC including special characters in there - only exception is the EMPEROR'S champion who also gets 5. skeletoro
My guess is they'll also release a 'strike force' type set at a similar price point to the vanilla one. Hard to say though. If (as some rumours suggest) we're looking at a 1-2 week release window, we may not have squillions of new models. I totally expect (optimistically) a new flier (in addition to maybe gaining storm ravens) and I think it likely we'll see some new infantry box, and some new character model. They'll release something. But will it be 3 new kits or 8? Rune_Priest_Rhapsody
I agree, Skeletoro. I think a Flyer is a shoe-in. I'd love to see a power armor Wolf Guard kit similar to the Sternguard kit (that thing is awesome!!) and most likely a Rune Priest Clam Pack. Only a guess here, and maybe a little bit of wishful thinking!! Valerian
Would the Saga and the Weapon stack?? At least in the instance of issuing a challenge?? End of Line No, the won't stack, you can only ever reroll a single die one time. However, they aren't completely redundant, as a Master-crafted weapon only allows you to reroll a single miss per turn, whereas this new version of the Saga would allow you to reroll all misses in a turn when involved in a Challenge.
