Ion
Greetings Brothers. I have been planning out my basic legion list, and found myself already owning a Contemptor model and having a distinct shortage of anti-tank capabilities beyond a couple of close combat options, and I was wondering what would be a good way to equip said Contemptor to cover that shortcoming? I have previously magnetised the arms, so it's a simple matter of buying a new weapon option and attaching it. I had been leaning towards a Multimelta/Chainfist w/Melta, but not sure if there's a much better option. Thank you for your help. Emperor's Furor
A pair of twin link lascannons would certainly do the job, due to their strength and AP they can blow things up with one shot. corai
I like the two kheres assault cannons. Especially on the mortis. Granted they can't 1 shot a vehicle due to ap but 12 BS5 shots strip hull points whilst also being good against infantry and insanely good against units with 4+ saves or worse Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293397-contemptor-loadout/#findComment-3738428 Share on other sites
depthcharge12
I would say to run him with one fist and one twin linked lascannon, and maybe a melta for his fist if you have the points. If not, the contemptor Mortis is a slightly cheaper option that you can slap two Kheres assault cannons or two lascannons on. I'd tend to lean towards the latter option because of the new damage charts and the ability to one shot most astartes characters you'll be facing. I think that the first type I listed is a better idea because the DCCW negates some of the spartan flare shield silliness and can squash regular baddies in cc too. You won't have a hard time getting stuck in either as the contemptor has fleet to reroll those charge dice. Just mah two cents :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293397-contemptor-loadout/#findComment-3738430 Share on other sites
Noserenda
Twinned Kheres is just so blandly common :PIve had a lot of work out of Twin fists and Grav guns for anti tank, not cheap though! Melta is pretty awful for AT in 30k as anything important tends to have Ceramite ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293397-contemptor-loadout/#findComment-3738524 Share on other sites
Ishagu
I run a kheres and a power fist with grav.... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293397-contemptor-loadout/#findComment-3738547 Share on other sites
Reyner
How is that working out for you Ish? Mine currently has Kheres and plasma blaster... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293397-contemptor-loadout/#findComment-3738798 Share on other sites
Ishagu
Pretty good. I was torn betweem the graviton and plasma blaster but I decided to use grav as ap2 was plentiful in my list. Slowing down an enemy advance by making the terrain difficult has actually proven to be useful as it slowed my opponents to a point where he was unable to make a charge on several occasions. An almost guaranteed glancing hit on a vehicle is always nice too... Phalanx Warder
I had some good performance with a heavy conversion beamer that paired with a twin linked LC or mm would be nasty Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293397-contemptor-loadout/#findComment-3741109 Share on other sites
Gab
Twin plasma, just for the fun of it! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293397-contemptor-loadout/#findComment-3742306 Share on other sites
Ion
So after many responses it seems that the correct answer is.... everything! (Except melta because 30k hates melta) I suppose it's lucky I've already magnetized the arms so I can test out a variety of configurations. Perhaps I'll just slowly add to his armoury with each forgeworld order I make, starting with the lascannon. Thank you for your help. depthcharge12
I throw a plasma cannon and fist on, and I just played two games against Athrawes and he made it his mission to destroy it with anything and everything he had the first turn. Phalanx Warder
I throw a plasma cannon and fist on, and I just played two games against Athrawes and he made it his mission to destroy it with anything and everything he had the first turn. I also played a game (not with Athrawes) 2 v 2 (1500 pts each) I ran a mortis with kheres and one with MM and DCCW w/Heavy flamer and basically took most of the first and second turn shots that my opponents could dish out (10 man ML HSS, 2 vindicators, Land raider Phobos and a x3 predator talon). I lost the mortis turn 1 and the other one by turn 3, I find this odd because my partner had a Spartan in his list, anyway they attracted enough attention to allow my Sicaran and Predator with Plasma Destructor cannon to run a muck on their flank and deal out a lot of pain. This brings me back to the OP. Don't hang your hat on a Contemptor for all your AT needs, I recommend that you continue down the road you are on with magnetizing your arms, consider your own personal play style as you consider how to equip and what to purchase, these beasts can be made to fill a number of roles but you need to look at your list as a whole and then figure out how to best support that list with the versatility/capability that the Contemptor brings Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293397-contemptor-loadout/#findComment-3742621 Share on other sites
