Ser Gerantius - Updated 07/16/14

So I've been deep down the rabbit hole with the hobby aspect of 40k and I've been working on an Imperial Knight I picked up a little while ago and I have to say it's been totally refreshing to start a project and see it through to completion.

This was a fantastic project and because of the size (it stands just about 7" tall) I took the opportunity to incorporate some LED lighting on the model. It wasn't too complicated and I just took my time with the building process and a little planning a head in terms of placement and concealment.

All the iconography was been done by free hand and I have to say I'm thoroughly please with how it turned out - but I'll let the pictures do the talking!

It's brilliant, I've always loved the Gernatus colour scheme and with the LED's as well, you've nailed it perfectly.

Mind sharing what colours you've used for the green? And where did you get the LED set-up from?

Thanks a lot, yeah I was really drawn to his scheme versus all the other Free Knights or the Knights of any particular house as well tongue.png

Sure no problem - not sure if you are partial to GW paints or Vallejo line so I'll list both for your convenience!

Very dark armor plates were done in:

GW - Incubi Darkness

Vallejo - No suitable conversion. Closest paint I'd match with personally is Heavy Charcoal (Game Color)

Highlights to dark armor were done in:

GW - Kabalite Green

Vallejo - Scurvy Green (Game Colour)

Lighter Armor plates were done in:

GW - Kabalite Green

Vallejo - Scurvy Green

Highlits to lighter armor were done in:

GW - Sybarite Green

Vallejo - No suitable conversion. Again the closest match I'd go with is Escorpena Green (Game Color)

As per the LED set, I work in the trades and I was able to get what I needed through a college of mine but they are readily available throughout the internet and I'm pretty sure you can get them as a kit with everything you need as well.

Hope that helps!

Hey, have you seen that Gerry has White Dwarf exclusive rules coming his way soon? As a unique named character for 500 points, he gets 5 WS and BS, a 3+ save, a rule called Striker where he can run and shoot in the same turn and reroll 1s on Stomps. Oh, and also It Will Not Die which should make him very hard to kill. All in all, I'd say it's a very fluffy version. Just thought you'd like to know. :D

Yeah I saw the White Dwarf cover and kind of thought to myself, "awww reallly....." I kind of liked that he seemed uncommon and not many people were flocking towards him.

But damn - making him a named character can have it's upsides. I was actually in the works of making my own fluff for Gerantius but we'll see what happens I guess.  Thanks for the cool update on that!

Sure thing. I thought for sure that's why you painted him up, actually. He's one of the poster boys of this Sanctus Reach campaign both in the rules and fluff. It's his planet the Orks are invading, after all. There's another famous Freeblade from there as well. Neru Degallio, last of his house, AKA The White Warden. Sounds like the campaign to save Alaric Prime didn't go all that well, and Neru was the last of his house. They've hinted broadly that there's something--different--about Gerantius, though. He's got some supernatural ability to come back from the dead, according to legend. He's also said to protect something extremely important. We shall see, man.

It goes without saying that the model is fantastic.  However, I find the evenly-spaced clumps of grass on the base to look very arttificial.  There seems to be a tendency towards spreading these grass clumps around, and on small bases it looks ok.  But on big bases like this, they start to look like pockmarks, because what you end up creating is actully regular distribution rather than random distribution.

That's awesome - thanks for the sound advice! Ironically, I wasn't going for an even distribution or trying to spread them out evenly.

But now that you bring it up it does catch my eye the wrong way - I may have to change that now lol
