Tarnag
Hello all! I'm thinking of starting a new Grey Knights army, and I'm on the lookout for some sources of alternate models for some things that fit the aesthetic that GW has set up. Mostly I'm looking for Inquisitors (Coteaz looks pretty good, but anything else I'd probably want something different), henchmen (namely Acolytes, Psykers I can deal with), and especially something to represent the Dreadknight (I hate the baby carrier look, and Contemptors are just a bit too small).Does anyone know of companies that make models that could work in the same vein as the Grey Knight look? Even if they don't have an exact line up for what I'm looking for I'd still enjoy seeing models that match the aesthetic! GhostLegion
One I can think of right off hand is Dreamforge Games. Their stormtroopers and valkir assault troops might do for inquisition in a pinch...and the stormtroopers don't look bad for scale against forgeworld work. www.dreamforge-games.com and dreamforge-games.BlogSpot.com should get you to their work Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293468-companies-for-alternate-grey-knights-inquisition-models/#findComment-3739496 Share on other sites
Durus
Not quite sure if I understand correctly. Are you looking for alternate models for the Grey Knights themselves or just the Inquisition characters that accompany them? If you are looking for replacements for Grey Knights, the only models with a suitable aesthetic that would kinda work with SM statline in PA and TDA (because they each have corresponding models) are Urban War Junkers. If you are looking for the other characters there are loads of companies you could use. Reaper is always worth checking out, if you like the look of Renaissance fashion I'd also recommend checking out the Cadwe models from Rackham (though they are OOP now, I recently got my hands on a Dog Handler I intent to use for an Arbites squad). If you prefer the Steampunky look some of the FW HH things seem to have I'd recommend checking out Wolsung from Micro Art Studio or Empire of the Dead from West Wind Productions. Historical Minis might be useful too I'm sure Landsknechte would make nice Crusaders as well, so Foundry (they have loads of other interesting sci-fi and pulp minis too), Pro Gloria and Lead Adventure (they have some nice pulp minis too) are worth checking out. Heresy Miniatures also do have a range of fantasy and Sci-Fi miniatures that might be useful. Then there's Hasslefree, their minis tend to be actual scale rather than heroic scale, but they have loads of great models (Even some of the prominent heads from the GW design team as Sci-Fi pirates). If you are more looking for a high tech sci-fi look I'd look into the Sedition Wars range from Studio McVey, though again they are not heroic scale. Honestly there are so many places to get useful minis from that from it's almost pointless to try and list them all unless you know specifically what you are looking for. The Dreadknight is much more difficult because of the size. Dust and Secret of the Third Reich have some large walkers, I'm not sure how they would measure up to a Dreadknight though. You could try looking around for 1:35 kits or something like that though. There are some pretty crazy ones out there. Another thing to consider - though you have to be lucky for that - is that you might be able to find an action figure or a toy the right size that you could convert and repaint. Will probably be cheaper than most other options too. I guess I should clarify what I'm really looking for (which I don't think I really thought about til you asked). I'm looking mostly to make my army have the same "look" to it. I love the GW Grey Knight models (Terminators, Strike Squads, special characters, etc), but the Inquisition stuff (outside of Coteaz previously mentioned) looks so much different and even a bit outdated, to the point that I don't think a similar paint job would even make the army feel cohesive. Those stormtroopers linked above were definitely a good start for the Warrior Acolytes (I'd need chainswords). Really, before starting the army, I want to know that when I put it down on the table it will feel like it shares one aesthetic, not "here's my Grey Knights, and here's my Inquisition". lhg033
I think dreamforge did a couple of sizes of the leviathan model - not sure if one of those could stand in for a dreadknight scale wise alternatively, I've seen good things where people have used a dreadnought front/torso with a dreadknight Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293468-companies-for-alternate-grey-knights-inquisition-models/#findComment-3739731 Share on other sites

Durus
Here's a side by side shot of the 15mm Leviathan and a Dreadknight. Just scroll to the bottom of the review. Tarnag
Wow, that's perfect. I suppose I could just ditch the back vents, they don't seem like they're too integral to the model (might take some GS or plasticard work but that's nothing I'm unfamiliar with). I wonder how well the Dreadknight arms would work on there? They look to be a bit smaller, but if I magnetized everything I think that I may be able to magnetize everything for different options (I'd buy the dreadknight arms through a bits service).
