Emperors Teeth
I am in the middle of getting my 1k army assembled and painted based on Kitwulfen's badass list lurking in the depths here. In the mean time, and while I'm on holiday, my armylist-writing hand has gotten itchy... so I'm putting some ideas I had down onto paper and pixel for your judgement:Rite of War: Head of the GorgonHQ[237] Praetor (Iron Father) + Cataphractii, Cyber-familiar, Master-crafted Thunder hammer, Volkite charger[105] Centurion (Master of Signal) + Artificer armourTroops[285] Tactical Squad - 20 men + Vexilla; Power axe, Melta bombs & Artificer armour on sergeant[235] Tactical Squad - 15 men + Vexilla; Power axe, Melta bombs & Artificer armour on sergeant[240] Tactical Support Squad - 9 men; Volkite Chargers, Rhino[240] Tactical Support Squad - 9 men; Volkite Chargers, RhinoElites[120] Apothecarian Detachment - 2 Apothecaries + Artificer armour, Augury scanner *Accompany Tactical Squads, or potentially, the Support Squads instead[330] Medusan Immortals - 10 men + Volkite chargers; Thunder hammer & Artificer armour on sergeant[215] Contemptor-mortis Dreadnought + 2x Twin Lascannon[150] Rapier Weapons Battery - 2 Rapiers + 2x Graviton cannonHeavy Support[420] Predator Strike Armour Squadron - 3 Predators + Magna-melta, Lascannon Sponsons, Pintle Twin bolter[320] Spartan Assault Tank + Flare shieldFortification[100] Defence Line + Gun emplacement with Quad-gun[Total = 2997pts]You probably noticed the lack of a Lord of War. I just fancied writing a list without one, and hope perhaps to play against someone else so inclined.I hope this list will play to the strengths of the Iron Hands well. I'll place the Defence Line in the rough centre of my line, manned by one of the large Tactical Squads and the Master of Signal. He can hand his +1BS out to the unit and up the Quad Gun to BS5 in one go. The combination of Apothecary, Cover Save and Vexilla should hopefully make this more or less immovable for a good length of time. The Contemptor can use some nearby cover (hopefully) and keep these guys company. The remaining Tactical Squad will footslog it towards the nearest objective, weathering whatever fire they have to. That leaves the vehicles, which I expect to use as an Outflanking force (in whatever manner the dice Gods dictate). This is why I chose a single large squadron of Predators. That lot will come on with a single dice roll and all being well, steamroll up a flank with virtually any target available to the Magna-melta's. The Spartan will be filled with the Immortals and Iron Father as a threatening combat unit. Between the Iron Father, Flare Shield and Blessed Autosimulacra (all AV13+ vehicles get it for free with the Rite of War) this guy won't be stopping for anyone any time soon. Lastly, and perhaps least, that leaves the two Tactical Support squads. I'll be honest, I just really wanted to field Tactical Marines with Volkites... it felt fluffy for Iron Hands to have some still around, being able to maintain the esoteric weapons. As for battlefield utility? I guess it depends on the Reserve Rolls. I'd like them to move up with the Spartan to provide covering fire. I guess I could hide them on the field and use them to advance up the field from Turn 1. I admit, they're probably best replaced with better units though. Triacom
This is an odd list to me, not to say it's bad, I'm curious how it works out, the only two things I'm a bit iffy on is choosing to outflank the vehicles, but that's because it's so luck based, and choosing the immortals and praetor to be a combat unit, firstly because the immortals are a support squad with slightly different equipment, and if you get into combat with any melee heavy unit, they're going to be taken down quickly, even with the preator, though they might be a decent distraction for your opponent while you claim objectives.
