Has anyone used Pyroclasts yet?

Recommended Posts

I've used them once in my last game. They failed a load of 2+ saves and never got close enough to do anything. But they look cool so'll be trying them again.

Good plan - a single game isn't reliable as a basis to judge. I'd say you need at least 8 - 10 to judge average effectiveness but, failing effectiveness I'd still take them as they are rather cool (in a flamey-burning kind of way).

I suppose they really need a transport?

I'd say yes since their shooting is limited to their templates and once a player gets a face-first experience with them, they're likely to be more proactive with keeping their juicy bits away from that flamer goodness. Having a vehicle will also let you confer a cover save to the pyroclasts the turn they disembark if you can later move the tank in front of them.

I've not used them yet, but I've started painting mine now. I think in higher point games I'll run 8 with a fist and melta bombs in a land raider proteus with exploratory augury web. A scout move and av14 transport is an excellent way to get them where they are needed very quickly, and with the melta bombs they can threaten pretty much every target on the board.

I think that they also benefit from the ability to score with the covenant of fire - this makes small squads a lovely fusion of flame and melta support squads, but with much higher resilience. I plan to let such small squads steal a tact squad rhino to get sat on an objective where they will be a pain to remove with wall of fire on the charge.
