Coming soon...The Purge?

My copy of 'The Purge' arrived today. It shipped Wednesday. (I'm in the UK.)

Hopefully my copy will arrive today then!

Still hasn't come... if it doesn't arrive on Monday will get in touch with BL... don't want to miss out!

My copy arrived - thank goodness. Fear over.

Just got my copy today as well. It really is a gorgeous edition. Let's hope the story is equally nice.

My thoughts exactly - it's beautiful. I know people begrudge the cost, but this is exquisite in its production.

I know. For US$50 this is pretty dang decent. Beyond decent. The cover, the thick pages, the dust cover, if this was a girl I'd be in love. I'm only at Chapter 6, and my only complaint so far is the complaint I always have with BL books:spell check and grammar check. There's one point there was "closes" when it was meant to be "closest" and there was another that had to do with grammar but I can't recall what it is at the moment. I'll see if I can find it again for my review. But at the moment, 4.5 stars out of five. I wouldn't say it is better than Aurellian, but if you put the quality of both stories together, you wouldn't pay attention to the authors, you'd just see XVII Legion.

As an editor, it makes me desperate to work for them to remove those errors... glad to hear you're impressed, will start reading in the next day or two.

Just hammered it out (basically I couldn't stop reading to the point I missed setting record on british bake off). Really quite enjoyed it, good levels of grim dark brutality, however

darth vader... really? Get the funk out as extreme would say

if we are dishing out ratings, in a pantheon esque manner I give it 6.5 stars out of 8 ;)

No, but now that I've finished it, I can see where he is coming from.

Basically, Sor Talgron gets really messed up by the phosphex. His limbs are burned to the point that his ligaments turn to ash and allt hat's left are burning pieces. And because his armor's integrity was compromised due to the phosphex, his internal organs take a beating as well since he literally breathed in the fire. Even his eyes are destroyed. And for some reason everything was replaced with bionics instead of vat-grown replacements.

Afterwards, the only thing that isn't a bionic, is his face, which is Freddy Krueger burned and he refuses to have a new face implanted.

Huh. Well, I'll be damned. I'm about a quarter of the way through the book, and I gotta say, I owe Mr. Reynolds an apology. I was seriously worried that I had bought the prequel to the 'Dark Whatever' trilogy, but this is pretty damn good.

...And I want the poster to this cover art. Badly.

Dun' finished. Anthony Reynolds is officially redeemed in my eyes.

No mustache twirling, no bullcrap, no stupidity. A straight up badass story, revolving around a excellent character, and a perfect ending.

Dare I say, this is my favorite Word Bearer story to date. (Sorry, Aaron.. blush.png )

What I specifically like of this novel

No Erebus!

Even better?

Jalruek is shown to be a conniving, self-serving, piece of crap; more concerned with his own life than that of his commanders'.  That was badly needed. I hate that son of a gun....

Glad to see that this seems to have been well received, I thought it was a nice story. Well, 'nice' isn't the word, but...

I'm lucky in that I haven't been dissatisfied with any of the novellas I've bought so far, but if they can keep them to at least this standard I'll be even happier.

Agree, I know people complain about the cost and nature, but I do enjoy these massively.

Honestly, I really like the fact that even though the Ultramarines bombed themselves, it is the Word Bearers that will be blamed. It keeps very much in-line with "Everything you know is a lie". That and also it means that the XII and XVII Legion are ultimately responsible for the destruction of 492 worlds, directly and indirectly. How's that for anniliating the enemy?

Looks like I might need to get my hands on this book after all. It seems like it was a resounding success.

Haha, it's inevitably when you don't order one of these Limited Editions that it will be. I'm stoked to read it now.

There's always ebay and amazon, if you're patient and check often. Somebody inevitably sells their copy, usually with a higher price tag but not always. I got Ravenlord for 30 USD, though it was thoroughly, horrifically overpriced as far as quality goes.

That said, I think this one is still available. BL isn't saying out of print or unavailable or anything. If it's still available by my next check, I'll get it.
