New to Grey Knights,, Advice required

Recommended Posts

Hey there, i've been playing 40k for awhile now as eldar, ive got about 11k points of them so as you caqn probley tell from that ive been at them for awhile. Recently i started playing GKs ive had afew games but im in no was a pro. Im about to take part in a tournement and i really want to have some kind of competitive force, the other players are:

Nids

Demons

Orks

Blood Angels

Black Legion

Ultramarines

i was wondering if you guys could help me build a decent competitive list? The games themselfs are as follows:

200 pt kill team, for this one ive got a list in mind and im pretty sure its against the demons

1500 Battle, for this im unsure, think it may be against the "good" players though

2000 Battle, again im not sure who this one will be against

"a massive battle" no idea what the deal is for this one

As far as my Collection goes i have:

HQ

Grand Master

Crowe

Mordrak+4 Ghost Knights

Librarian

Troops/ Eilties

I have about 25 tems that can be used as paladins or just GK Terms

I have about 20 Normal Knights that can be used as either Purifiers or strikes squads

Fast Attack

Interceptors x5

Stormraven

Heavy Support

DreadKnight

Thats everything ive got, i could really use some help building some list for the bigger games, also could sue feed back on my kill team which is as follows:

Leader

Knight of Flame/w Master Crafted Halberd

Dirty Fighter Specialist:

Purifier/w Falchions, Fleshbane

Weapon Specialist:

Purifier/w psycannon, Ignore Cover

Guerilla Specialist:

Purifier/w psycannon, Infiltrate

3x Purifiers/w swords

Any thoughts?

Everythings kicking off this weekend, so soem feedback and stuff would be muchly appriciated!!

Thanks smile.png !

Your Kill-Team looks fine, Purifiers are really strong in that setting as there are no 2+ armour saves and they curb-stomp most things in melee. Not to mention psycannons are borderline broken, given how flexible and powerful they are.

Still lose to Legion of the Damned though ;) those guys are absolutely broken in Kill-Team.

For 1.5k I'd look at;

HQ:

Librarian w/sword, Mastery 3

(200 points)

Elites:

(2) Flame Knight w/halberd, Purifier w/hammer, 4x Purifiers w/halberd, 4x Purifiers w/psycannon

(295 points each)

Troops:

(2) Justicar w/halberd, Terminator w/hammer+psycannon, 3x Terminators w/halberds

(225 points each)

Heavy:

Dreadknight w/greatsword+heavy incinerator, teleporter

(260 points)

Total: 1,500 points

At 2k I'd add this to the above army

Troops:

Justicar w/halberd, Terminator w/psycannon, 3x Terminators w/halberds

(225 points)

Fast Attack:

Raven w/twin heavy bolter, twin assault cannon, hurricane sponsons, psybolts, teleport homer

(270 points)

Land the Terminator squads off the Raven's teleport homer, carry a Purifier squad inside it.

Thanks man, ill run these lists and let you know how it goes! smile.png much appriciated, in teh 1500 list how would you reccomend getting into combat and not just getting shot to bits footslogging it? I tried it the otehr day and got shot to bits by my mates lootaz haha

If you need more melee, you can change one of the Purifier squads for an Interceptor squad with incinerators. Cost about the same, and gives you another Turn 1 Shunt to throw at them with your DK. Between those two, you should have enough incinerator to kill all his Lootaz.

S it turned out my first two games the kill team and the 1500 pt game were against Chaos! they went terribly bad, i got destroyed in the kill team, i just didnt have enough models and in the 1500 pt i ran this list

HQ:

Librarian w/sword, Mastery 3

(200 points)

Elites:

(2) Flame Knight w/halberd, Purifier w/hammer, 4x Purifiers w/halberd, 4x Purifiers w/psycannon

Raven w/twin Melta, twin assault cannon, hurricane sponsons, psybolts, teleport homer

(270 points)

I got so unlucky the terms came in on turn two and got wiped out by fire and the raven didnt come in till turn 4!!! all in all it was abit of a disaster! Also my Warlord the librarian got popped so hes now at some kind of stat loss for the next game plus he didnt get any boons for winning or performing well!! not great! not sure what the next games size will be, any tips though ?

Did you mean your terminators came in turn 2? Because, with the exception of mordrak and his ghost knights, GKs have no way of arriving from reserve turn 1.

It looks like your biggest problem is that you put half of your points in reserve. Any mediocre shooting army can remove 10-15 power armored models a turn. Try and find a way to up your mobility turn 1. GKs really want to be midfield to use their weapons to full effect.

Yeah sorry turn two, to be honest if my Raven had came in then the termies would have been able to home in on it and things would have went well, or atleast better, oddly enough i actually didt lose anything until turn two when the termies dropped in, regardless what happens these days tbh, GKs just dont seem to be competivive enough especially against the likes of Tau eldar and CSM, its just frustrating when you put so much effort into working the game tactically just to get shot to bits or despite the fact we are an army of Warp charges we can still get hit so hard in the magic phase, i just dont see really any upside to playing GKs 7th ed

I wouldn't got as far as to say we can't be competitive at all, we fair average against all but the cheesiest builds. I think without henchmen/inquisition units though you are severely hindering your army's potential. Uber elite lists don't work in 6th/7th, some terminators are good, but making them most of your army can backfire hard, especially if they deepstrike. Try using interceptors, dreadknights, henchmen, or dreadnoughts (I realise models could be a limiting factor here) and you'll find games become more manageable

I'm finding interceptors increasingly more useful in 7th than anything else. Just a shame they're so expensive, because that 30" shunt move is amazing for running away, teleporting into cover, stealing an objective and getting into an assault early.

Also amazing to shunt behind a vehicle and blasting the rear armour.

And if you gots Le points, could always put falchions on the interceptors to make a pretty good assault squad

Sorry about the late reply, thats the thing with most of our units they are so expensive and with all the AP2 units we're almost like a glass cannon army just due to the low model count, my next games vs blood angels, i was going to run this list

HQ
Librarian /w level 3 (200)

Draigo (275)

Brotherhood Champion (100)

Elites

Purifiers: Flame Knight w/halberd, Purifier w/hammer, 4x Purifiers w/halberd, 4x Purifiers w/incinerators (255)

Troops

Strike Squad (100)

Paladins /w Apothecary, Brotherhood Banner, two Psycannons, one hammer, three Halberds (395)

Fast attack

Storm raven /w multi melta psybolt (225)

Heavy Support

Land Raider Redeemer /w Psyflame and Psybolt (265)

Nemesis Dreadknight /w Nemesis Great Sword and heavy incinerator (185)

2000 pts

The idea is to combat squad the Purifiers and drop them out the raven to incinerate and multi charge, and to run all the HQ with the pallys in the land raider as a death star like unit and hope for sanctuary, any thoughts? I know the player he runs a censored.gif load of plasma so termies are pointless my only real chance is combat, hopefully use the raven and the DK to pop his tanks and pray

Expensive? I wish my vanguard veterans were as good as interceptors, not as cheap, just as good msn-wink.gif
