Kilofix
Apart from using regular Guard as the basis for conversion, here are some options to make them more LnD: Forgeword - Renegade Guard bits (expensive) - face masks and respirators GW W40K - Chaos Cultists GW WFB - Empire - Flagallent Warband: for a robed human look GW WFB - Empire - Empire Free Company: for a regular human rabble look GW WFB - Beastmen - Gor Herd: for a bare mutant look GW WFB - Skaven - Stormvermin: for a armored / robed mutant look Victoria Miniatures - Broolian Beastmen: for modern mutant look and also for convicts: http://victoriaminiatures.highwire.com/product/7-beastmen-heads Puppets of War - For all sorts of heads: http://puppetswar.com/category.php?id_category=197 Anvil Industry - For all sorts of weapons and arms that are compatible with 40K but also some cultist'ish minis: http://www.anvilindustry.co.uk/Miniatures-of-the-North/Tox-Troopers Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293586-conversion-bits/ Share on other sites
Excessus
Pig Iron productions makes really nice heads: http://www.pig-iron-productions.com/head-sprues-c-4.html?zenid=417e9b93d74758f30e098c1ff770689e Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293586-conversion-bits/#findComment-3741713 Share on other sites
Castellan Cato
Blight Wheel Miniatures makes renegade torsos that look a bit similar to forgeworld's imo. Wargames Factory has the Alien Suns line of trenchcoat and masked troopers. They're a bit weedy for my tastes, but the parts are pretty interchangeable with GW IG and they're cheap. I'm keeping an eye on the new Warzone Resurrection minis. WWII era, British style getups with gasmasks and cloaks. I think thats all I've got for now.... Sorry no links I'm at work. Uprising
I would also suggest these for cheap, but good looking miniatures, with a multiple weapon options and accessory. http://www.wargamesfactory.com/webstore/dark-futures/apocalypse-survivors-men http://www.wargamesfactory.com/webstore/dark-futures/apocalypse-survivors-women 30 cultist for $20 USA is a great deal. Also if your looking for evil but well equid guards/cultists try these by wargames factory http://www.wargamesfactory.com/webstore/dreamforge-games Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293586-conversion-bits/#findComment-3748306 Share on other sites
Darth Mustard
Apart from the previously listed, for my Slaneesh followers I use Dark Eldars, zombies, Fantasy Chaos mutated, Dark elves, Orks... Nearly everything goes :D It looks more or less like that http://i780.photobucket.com/albums/yy82/DarthMustard/leaderandcultists2_zpsc1c4e2f8.jpg If you are interested I can detail which kit for what or just check out my WIP Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293586-conversion-bits/#findComment-3748437 Share on other sites
Slave to Darkness
just seen some bits that i have to get for my slaaneh pleasure cult in this pik, now i have to spend a small fortune to get the ideas in my head transformed into tabletop killing machines. you have jut made me a poor person... Darth Mustard
Slaneesh made me do it :) You can always, as I intent to, sale your cultists to finance the next project Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293586-conversion-bits/#findComment-3752051 Share on other sites
Kierdale
I'd also recommend the WHFB Ungor kit (not only the Gors). Aside from being a little more human-like, the arm poses (particularly the bow-and-arrow ones) are a godsend for making cultists armed with rifles. Willy Pete
A couple more possibilities. Victoria Miniatures has Broolian Beastmen and Cthood in resin, if you want that look. And Copplestone Casting, in their future war line, has various scavenger figures that make pretty nice cultists. Those are metal, but pretty reasonable prices. I'm sure there are many others that I'm not aware of too. Brother Ambroz
I've used these from wargames factory. Shock troops make great guard or traitor guard although for a really corrupted look you may want to check elsewhere. Slave to Darkness
Slaneesh made me do it You can always, as I intent to, sale your cultists to finance the next project oh i sell nothing, i just starve tfo finance the next project, and the 7 others im already working on Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293586-conversion-bits/#findComment-3784264 Share on other sites
Darth Mustard
yep just realized that I have so many kits that a traitor guard might be my only salvation. Darth Mustard
To that list I added yesterday WFB High Elves Shadow warriors WFB Dark Elves Sorceress WFB Bretonnian archers and men at war I forgot what I bought last time but they were some vampires, dark eldars and other kits involved. Unfortunatly the kroots are on mail order only here in China but I think it's a must-have kit for the bags, blades, guns and strange arms if you're building muties. Slave to Darkness
foolishly i threw out some kroot sprues before i found inq28, now i wish i never, the minis themselves id never use but its all the little extras that i think would look good on my slaanesh pleasure cult/hellraiser ripoffs. and im not buying a box just for them ether, i felt sick buying a box of greyknights just for the staff, that i never ended up using -.- at least the heads came in handy for my word bearers Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293586-conversion-bits/#findComment-3785392 Share on other sites
Brother Ambroz
Use a bits website like Horde 'O Bits or something. Looks like Kroot do have some nice pouches and misc gear. Do their shoulderpads fit guard shoulders? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293586-conversion-bits/#findComment-3786362 Share on other sites
Darth Mustard
I'm not sure they would fit the cadian guards since they alre already covered in that department but the kroot shoulder pads are flat enough to be used as armor plates :) I also use the one from the lizardmen army which work for chaos. Kevlarshark
Curious Constructs have some great bits. I especially like the Bloodpact style grotesque heads and renegade torsos. I will post some pics later, if I have time. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293586-conversion-bits/#findComment-3804755 Share on other sites
K0rtmer
Kromlech at bitsofwar.com has a great range of Ork bits that qualify for a ragged LaTD look as well. Um, at least some of them. The "Buzzsaws & Drills" and "Orc Tank Hunter Backpacks" fit GW's 28 mm guardsmen and cultists good enough (and are ever so slightly too big, if at all). The "Mechanical CCW Arms" and "Mechanical Gun Arms" are probably just too large to fit perfectly, but still work for an exaggerated look. There's more on their website, but these are the bits I ordered and that I found to fit for what I'm doing. The casts I got are excellent to acceptable and the people and Kromlech are a charm to deal with. Brother Ambroz
Thinking of taking another dive into my traitor IG, trying to find some helmets that fit cadian torsos. Anyone have any suggestions? I'd like them to be pretty corrupt looking, using the renegade enforcers kits as sergeants and leaders. Dark_Apostle_XVII
Empire Flagellant heads work pretty nicely with Cadians. Even managed to get a few of the spare Cadian helmets to fit on them - as a kind of mockery of a Cadian officer on my cultist champion.
