grum88
Hi All ex 40k player here. long time fan of the wolves had a reasonable size force of them. never really got a chance to play until right before i stopped when i managed to start gaming again but sadly not with wolves, i then stopped 40K mainly because of GW's price hikes. moved on to pastures new like Flames of war and Dropzone commander. now my main passion is with these games. Then a picture emerges from the depths of the warp of a lovely new Space wolf lord, my resistance lasts all of 5 minutes. I plan to start up 40K at the right time from the looks of it, so my first purchase is going to be this new box set. slowly build up from their. im going all into 40k this time. stick with 1 army and just focus on having fun and getting to worked up about the must have units/wargears/killer list. but with a new codex on the horizon and some money coming my way soon for hobby goodness. i was wondering do people think the space wolf battalion is still a good buy and good to round out the new box? what is the new edition like im hearing really mixed opinions whilst i sit like an eager pub wagging its tail for advise on getting into 40k with wolves and the new edition i will crack open the new white dwarf and soak in Krom's awesomeness Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293604-returning-to-the-wolves/ Share on other sites
Karack Blackstone
Welcome back to the hobby, may the Sons of Russ find you well in your new hobby experiences! As far as boxes go, if you like the overdone wolfy wolfingness of the normal battleforce, it's a great standalone purchase. If however you have a reasonable amount of money, the Space Marine Strikeforce and the Space Wolves Battleforce boxes together will seriously round you out a solid force to be reckoned with on the table. Add in the new Campaign Starter Box, and I think you will find yourself with plenty of models to make about a 2,000 point or so force; you should be able to field 1,500 with little trouble. Just pick up one or two Devastator boxes and you should be just fine. This all assumes one has the funds to accomplish all of this and afford the price. skeletoro
I'd pick up one space wolves battleforce, just in case it is discontinued and replaced with something else in the coming month or so. then id minimize purchases until the new codex arrives. The vanilla strikeforce is fine but there's no reason to think it will disappear any time soon - wait to see what new stuff is released before you sink your fangs in further. And the campaign box plus one strike force will give you plenty to assemble/paint while you wait!! Valerian
Check the Space Wolves Resources link in my signature block (also pinned thread at the top of the subforum); there is a great thread linked there with "shopping" recommendations for Space Wolves players. Ullr Direfang
Looks like the rumors of new Space wolf stuff, and the new edition (maybe just me) are bringing more and more back. It is good to see old names still here (that is directed more at Valerian).
