Iron Hands/Emperors Children hatred disappearance

Recommended Posts

Since the events of Istvaan V, every book that has included at least one Iron Hand, has mentioned how they despise Fulgrim and the Emperors Children and demand vengeance for their deceased Primarch. Which makes sense.

However advance the time line to the 41st Millenium, and suddenly there is very little - if any - mention of Iron Hands desperatly hunting and killing Emperors Children. Did they get it all out of their system in the interveaning 10,00 years or did they just forget. Or did Ferrus mean very little to them?

What is it?!!?!? I mean the Wolves and the Thousand Sons kept their grudge going all this time, can't have been hard for a legion which possess hard drives for memory to remember the events of Istvaan V...

The lack of fluff does not mean there is a lack of hatred towards the EC.

The IH even carry a grudge against the salamanders and the raven guard for failing to assist them carry out the mission at istvaan.

As an aside, next person that mentions any fluff contained in the clan raccoon supplement gets lobotomized.

It's that bad. Thus why Basswave, my robo-brother from another mother, is even here with us now. The 40k fluff broke his heart.

Welcome to 30k, brothers. We give a :cuss , and murder traitors/loyalists because blood calls for blood.

Carry on.

Personally, I think the best way to handle 40k Iron Hands is to ignore the old fluff or make a DoY chapter based around old fluff princip

i think part of the problem eith this rivalry is the relative rarity of IH fluff. Even then it still seems to pop up a bit, like Wrath of Iron

What probably makes it worse is that it's a relatively recent invention, as far as I'm aware. It was a creation of the HH series that Ferrus and Fulgrim were BFFs, Fulgrim failed to turn Ferrus, and hence the rage. In the old IA article Ferrus was enraged by the very notion of Horus' treachery, and was gunning for the Warmaster himself on Istvaan, not Fulgrim (plus of course he was 'never seen again' rather than emphatically decapitated).

You should read Wrath of Iron, it deals with the whole EC and IH relationship.

I concur - Wrath of Iron is imho one of the best books in recent years where BL are concerned and deals emphatically with both the legacy of hatred between the two forces and with the likelihood of a spiralling self destruction for the IHs themselves.

The problem is that the Emperor's Children of 40K are either partying their asses off in the Eye of Terror or prowling the galaxy searching for the next high.

The Iron Hands cannot keep up. Alternatively, they cannot invade the Pleasure Planet either (since it is rumored that Fulgrim rules over it, and all Emperor's Children seek to find it someday, never succeeding).

Conspiracy theory time!

I think Fulgrim is dead in 40k. Matter of fact, I suspect that he died on Terra, and the so-called pleasure planet is one giant party around his tomb.

Fingers crossed. I hate that prissy so-and-so. :P

I want the murder weapon to be a scale model Titan to the face :P

As they say in the U.S. Military, "Friendly fire, isn't."

To put it bluntly, the clan raccoon fluff was so bad that the IH forum was silent for quite a few months, to the point someone asked in a thread if the IH forum was dead.

I've gotten over it a while ago and got back in the saddle. I have the ever enthusiastic clan of people that make up the 30k forums to thank for that. With all the photoshopped images, beautifully converted models and awesome fluff you all make, it's impossible to stay away :tu:

Anyways back on topic, the EC represents everything the IH hate. So brutal bretrayal aside the IH would hate them just out of principle. I can totally see that some scattered clans would be so thirsty for vengeance, that they would dedicate themselves to Khorne, just so that they could exact their vengeance.

Khornate Iron Hands, now that's metal.

Agreed. The old IA: Iron Hands article stated that it was actually Horus whom Ferrus was best buddies with, not Fulgrim.

As far as the "Missing vs. Decapitated" issue goes, you have to remember that the IA articles were written from the perpective of the 41st Milennium, and what was once historical fact has been warped and 'ret-conned' by 10,000 years of constant war and hopelessness.

Also, pretty much every loyalist who bore witness to Ferrus' decapitation at Issvan V died before leaving the planet. By the time of the 41st Millennium, the only real evidence the Iron Hands have that Ferrus was definitely killed at Isstvan V is the word of Traitors, and who in their right mind would believe that? From the point of view of the 41st Millennium Iron Hands' morale, surely it is better for them to believe that Ferrus is still out there somewhere waiting to be found, rather than knowing that he was slaughtered by his best friend in an act of despicable treachery that left him blindsided and overwhelmed with rage?

Additionally, neither his head or body were ever recovered (officially). The traitors kept his head as a trophy, and his body dissappeared without trace, although some believe that the Mechanicum have it secreted away somewhere.

Aye, true enough. It's just a personal thing that I would have preferred that we the readers hadn't been shown definitive proof of Ferrus' death.
