Thoughts on Legion rules - Dark Angels

Recommended Posts

So I tried running just some of my ideas in my other thread on legion rules for the dark angels, and they didn't seem to make much of an impact to the game.

I tried using my "weapons of a Bygone Age" rule to reroll 1's to hit with plasma and saw little effect or need of the rule - possibly because of how I was using it? I played 2 matches against Athrawes, and my force had a plasma blaster and two plasma cannons, but barely ever needed to reroll the 1s because I never got them.

I'm asking the help of the B&C community to create some legion rules for the 1st that are both fluffy and strong to use (don't read that as OP, but rather something that makes a difference in the game like +1 BS for IF).

Thanks guys

Using Unremembered Empire as inspiration,

Drilled Prescision: Any infantry unit once per game my choose to either Rapid Fire at full range, can still run, cannot assault OR they may choose to re roll any or all of their dice rolled when determining charge distance.

Jono

I like that idea...especially since it made Bobby G green with envy ;)

You may want to specifically state that you can't use the Rapid Fire at full range and Fury of the Legion at the same time. That would be.... broken as hell.

While it's purely my subjective view of the legion, I can't say I'm really a fan of that part of UE, so wouldn't really like it being reflected as a part of the legion rules.

I'd rather something that reflects our tactical genius and co-ordinated approach to warfare as well as our knightly/honourable approach to personal combat.

Inspired tacticians - may reroll any reserve roll, whether it is successful or not. Second roll counts.

Honour of Caliban - Dark Angels who are outnumbered in clost combat count as having one higher Weapon Skill and may reroll failed morale tests.

For me this reflects the stoic nature of the DA while hearkening back to way the knights of The Order fought in shrinking circles when in melee. It also provides a nice reflection for the NL's 'talent for murder' rule.

I like that honor of Caliban rule too. Kind of an inverse SoH/NL rule. I think it also reflects maybe the more veteran and smaller nature of the Dark Angels (well they're medium sized actually) and incentivizes to make smaller squads.

I was thinking of giving base +1 WS to all 1st Legion Astartes due to their training and hand to hand nature. Would this be too much?

I don't think it would considering shooting is still the big thing in 7th.

Or how about all models equipped with a close combat weapon get +1 WS?

Definitely think it's too much.

There's also quite a few legions out there that have dibs on the melee speciality and our average troopers isn't necessarily more experienced than the average trooper from another legion. Most of the buffs in HH tend to be situational as well, so an across the board stat increase is probably too much.

As I've mentioned elsewhere, I'm really keen on an 'Inner Circle Knight' clost combat unit. Basically 30k DWKs with swords.
