Is it just me or...

It's only the Gorgans and Gal Vorbak, unit wise at least. Plus the Night Lords and Word Bearers Contemptors that were mentioned by some of the designers at the weekender. I wouldn't expect them to impede the increasing releases from extermination however.

Konrad Curze will be the next Primarch, and the only character left who's getting some love is Sevatar. Then it will be full on to Extermination before Conquest's models hit the line as well.

On the subject of novels, I agree with Heathens. Use your discretion. As far as the Heresy series goes, I will buy every novel, regardless of author and regardless of content just because I want to know it all, the lore-whore in my demands nothing less. The other formats make me far more selective however. For novella's and limited editions, I'll only stump up if it's an author who's work I enjoy (probably 4, ADB, JF, RS and CW) and on subject matter that sets my spidey sense tingling. Same with audio dramas, content and author trumps it for me.

Personally I won't touch anything like Maccragge's Honour, I just don't enjoy anything graphic like that.

My interest was waning but then I got some games in with Athrawes and started scaling our armies up and painting.

I think the reason it seems a little slow now is because of the summer busy time and the fact that nothing truly new has been released. Now is the time to get some games in and paint while we await our next scraps from our overlords at FW....

Hail Alan of Bligh, to thee do we pledge our allegiance and money!!! Please hear the voices of your minions and grace us with your beautiful resin goodies and fluff. All hail Bligh!

For me it's the lack of interest in 30k that is slowing my ambitions.

I find it hard to convert friends, but I can't really blame them when a 30k tactical squad with basic weapons, special weapons and a few unique bits and shoulder pads costs £100 whereas a 40k tactical squad with all the bits you would ever need is around £25...

Also, as much as I love the setting I think the general story is utter crap. The Primarchs turning traitor, the Emperor's mishaps... Sometimes it's too convenient. It's then I realise the story simply exists to create the 40k setting and will never be as good as something like Eisenhorn which is truly a great piece of fiction.

Also... The magic of the fabled horus heresy has been taken away.

What I feel would help the game would be a greater focus on allowing the armies to face up against regular 40k forces. I know the HH is very lore and campaign driven, but I'm finding it an uphill struggle to field my sons of horus...

They really need to update the rules too, the game doesn't function as smoothly in 7th edition and units like the Primarch Lorgar are incredibly OP with guaranteed access to Invisibility.

Also, sometimes FW doesn't help itself by making units overpowered. A lot of players still don't fully accept FW models or rules in games, and I can't really blame them. Look at the Knight Lancer for example - A mere 25 point increase over a Paladin for a far, far stronger unit that verges on stupid for it's cost.

Basically, the HH rules set shouldn't be so inwardly focused. Commander Dante is dead, yet can be fielded without anyone kicking up a stink in regular games :-P

This community will flourish if games are more readily available, if it's more affordable and if all the legions can get some love quickly.

Do you mean Captain Tycho? Because Dante isn't dead circa m41.

That's the one. I do apologise... I'm not big on the Blood Angels :-P

Thirty books about the heresy? Even if I discount the amount of non-marines that spurns, that means years, possibly decades before any attention is given to the Age of Apostasy. The Nova Terra Interregnum? We're looking at the 22nd century.

(Though if that means they retcon Cypher out of the entire deal, that won't be 100% bad. Just 99,9%.)

EDIT: about the cost of playing heresy; nothing forces you to use the Forge World models. You can use the standard tactical squads. Or marines from Battle for Macragge or Assault on Black Reach. Four sets net you twenty eight bolter marines, four flamers, four missile launchers and four sergeants. That means three minimal legionary tactical squads, one sergeant for either flamer tactical support or missile launchers heavy support. Use the last bolter marine as a sergeant for whichever support squad you didn't use baldy for.

Personally

On the FW I can't get exited over variant torsos and heads for legions I don't have any interest in, or sculpts  of primarchs I'll never buy because a) i don't like them b) I lack the skills to do them justice and most importantly c) I hate special characters.  If FW can start pumping out some cool tanks and new squads then my interest is going to pick up.  I really hope that finish off everything mentioned in book 1 - 3 before they move on to books 4 - 6 with a massive relases of new models for each faction/legion (another thing I hate is being drip fed stuff).  Maybe if GW/FW actually published a release timetable that they stuck to it would help the situation rather going on the FW/GW every hoping that I'm going to see something awesome only to see EC heads and thinking is that all you could be bothered to show us you must have a warehouse full of resin crack.  show me, excite me, tempt me I don't care if it isn't coming out for 6 months I'm going to be drooling over that Wolf guard pack (or whatever the 30K equivalent will be) every day for the next 6 months and end up buying 200 of them because I'm so damn desperate for them.

On the BL front they release so much filler on so many formats I don't bother to keep up, if they left this stuff until after all the novels had been written then the HH might have been finished and the 1 page ebooks, novellas, audio books might actually be interesting to me rather than something that I can live without and just find annoying whilst my favourite series drift further and further towards obscurity to feed the all consume beast that is the HH money train.  If i have a choice of spending £20 on a limited edition novella about a legion/priarch that I don't like or £20 on 2 or 3 books on something that I really want to read I know where my money is going.   The HH novels to me have become like George R R Martin Song of Ice & Fire I've been waiting so long for the next instalment to come out while he fannys around with TV shows and knick knacks that I'm not that fussed anymore if the next book ever comes out.

Well I think I've found a way to bring the fire back, I started re reading the opening trilogy, I forget just how inspiring the opening setting is.

I'll then re read TFH Aurelian & Tallaran and see if my favourite books can re ignite my passion.

I also ordered 20 red butchers to convert up so I'll see I'm hoping the next new release from FW gives me some excitement

Thats a good idea actually, pitty for me im lousy when it comes to reading the HH novels. Im really far behind, yet to read, Vulkan Lives, Unremembered Empire, Scars and Vengful Spirit, not to mention all the short stories leading up to these events, (im distracted easily.)

Just got to the end of Angel Exterminatus (last 50 pages) but just put it down from sheer annoyance, already have an idea on what happens so im just skipping ahead.

I haven't actually started a Heresy force but I can say that the recent releases have left me wanting more as well. The initial few months saw me checking FW almost every few hours just to look at the awesome models that were going to be released. I saw the Palatine blades models and my first thought was how to convert them into BA. Lately however, there really haven't been any models that I love as a whole. I see a couple bits in some releases that I want and that's about it.
