Mahoo
While not exactly the same, you could do the same thing people do with flamers. Drybrush the surrounding area with a brown, then drybrush more tightly around the area with some black. A quick and easy effect but looks pretty good. I've seen people use blues and purples and the effects look beautiful, although I've no idea how they achieve that effect lolhttp://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/287114-painting-burnt-barrels-for-plasma-and-flamer-weapons/?hl=%2Bflamer&do=findComment&comment=3618813 Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293734-heat-scaring-on-exhaustafterburner-ports-an-weapons/#findComment-3744796 Share on other sites
Grotsmasha
As above with blue/purple wash/shade. Check out the Tutorials section, iirc, there a family recent addition that covers what you're after. Ovidius Incertus
I usually do successive washes of sepia, devlan mud and badab black moving further toward the nozzle/muzzle end. It takes a lot of washes and a lot of drying time to do, but the effect is good. That's with silver/gunmetal colored nozzles. I've started adding a purple wash to the mix on some of my flamer/melta nozzles that are painted with a brassy color. Forté
Look at photos or real jet engines. They often don't have a scorched look but do have a slight heat discoloration. Purple, blue, and sepia glazes should work. SCOTT_FRANCIS
I used a metal, a silver, a brown, a grey and then mixed up the paints. I then washed half in devlan mud. This was my first attempt ever at "heat effect".
