Part 1/x

"The threat of evil spreads like a contagion. It accelerates quickly and it poisons everything it touches. It cannot be tamed without the threat of exposure and subsequent passage of the disease to the one doing the taming. In that sense, we who take it upon ourselves to attempt to stifle its insidious advance become necessarily and inexorably distinct from those who do not. If mere presence is enough, if the mere memory of such exposure is itself enough to do irreversible damage by getting that process of contamination started, then we ourselves are poison. As such, we take it upon ourselves to never again return to the places from which we originated. Our roles are sacrificial. We cannot, knowing what we know, risk the possibility of ruining the very thing for which we fight.

Thus we will die fighting, and, moreover, each one of us will do so willingly. It is not, therefore, anything other than the ultimate display of devotion to approach the destruction of one's foes with an overflowing of joy and passion. What ruined us must be destroyed with a desire that is simultaneously boundless and unapologetic. We revel in the suffering of those who oppose us not simply because we must, but because we are justified in doing so."

Chaplain Galen finished his weekly address with a deep sigh.

---

"Extraordinary, my brother."

A robed figure approached slowly from out of the unlit corner and proceeded to greet Galen with a slightly crooked smile.

"Your words do our actions justice. The chapter is honored to bear witness a mind such as yours, trained as it is in the art of articulating and giving purpose to what it is we are called to do."

"Save it, Jevosk. I'm not having the type of day necessary to put up with any more of your self-serving smoke-blowing."

It was nice timing, considering that Galen had just finished gathering his things. He gave no response and walked off without looking back.

"The tone of your response worries me, Galen. It reeks of inner turmoil gone unexpressed."

Galen held his tongue and kept walking.

This is my first attempt at some fluff for a Liber Chapter I have been wanting to create. I am not good at doing backstories ex nihilio. Hopefully I can get some fluff going now that I have characters in mind.  Hope you enjoy this little tidbit, and stick around to see what happens with Galen and Jevosk. Hint: something is rotten in Denmark.

Comments and criticisms welcome and appreciated.
