Hello all,

Yet another game in my campaign today. This time Chaos Space Marines were looking for revenge, and to retake their staging planet's manufactorum they had lost earlier in the campaign. In our first match he brought 3 Demon Princes and was summoning demons everywhere, they had really pressed me, and if not for some unlucky rolls for him, the battle may have turned against the Sky Warriors.

We Rolled for mission after deciding to play Malestrom of war. I forget which mission it was, conventional deployment, but we shared "objective secured" tactical cards, face up. They were live for either player. (important later) He won the roll off and decided to go fist. His deployment was agressive, with foot slogging nurgle troop preparing to march across and defend the derelict highway that leads to the hive city. His Prince opted for the high-ground in some ruins. His Heldrake had yet to arrive at the scene. His Deflier was set on the rear edge, all too aware of the incoming pod of Vlka Feryka's finest.

I deploy in cover and as close the the frontline as possible, knowing I want to close the distance... I had planned for hordes... but then...

Magnus Wolfborne let out the faintest of sounds... a chuckle... The Sons of Russ had seized the initiative. (first time ever)

Turn 1:

The objectives worked to my favour. Capture Obj 3 was available twice, and in striking distance of a razorback full of GH. I also got a card that gave a point for a MC or Vehicle, and another gave me a point for a unit, or D3 for 3 or more units. I was liking my chances.

My drop pod lands exactly where i need it after scattering into ruins, putting my melta and Arjac in range of the defiler, but behind cover. I took the midfield with my armour in order to press his exposed troops. Magnus himself was swept forward by the kill urge, his pack of wolves churning up the ground beside him.

Arjac and his posse wrecked the Delier achieving an explode result with Foehammer (Was so happy! I will carve a mark in it), giving me 3 pts, exposing his flank and sending a message as the explosion echoed through the battlefield ruins.

My vindicator and LFangs punished the traitor legion's reckless aggression, with the Vindicator eliminating his Witch with its first thundering volley. The tone was set, and I was up 5-0 after the first turn, and my opponent was on his heels.

His turn

The traitors moved into firing position, with WG laying down their lives for Arjac. His Pred glanced my LR and his foot squads vaporized Magnus' wolf pack. His demon prince failed his summoning, there would be no help from the warp on this day.

Turn 2:

My second drop pod arrived perfectly, and I continued to press the lines of the traitor legion with my armour. Magnus and his wolves moved into striking distance, waiting for the the instant after the first firing volley to charge. Arjac held their ground, digging in and awaiting the assault from the foul nurgle husks.

The second firing volley was as dangerous as the first, with the vindicator smashing a sq that had stepped behind the ruins. My Razors improved the odds for the impending combat, and my plas sqaud with WP, and long fangs took four wounds off his Demon Prince that had a 3+ cover save. Arjac popped a nurgle marine with his hammer as well, which i was very happy about.

Magnus and his wolves pounced on 2 Traitor Marines that had seen their squad reduced to shambles. His Blade made swift work of his foes, and honouring his wolfkin.

Slay the Warlord, Destroy a unit objective card, 7-1

His turn:

He failed his reserve roll for the heldrake... Poppa Nurgle had cursed them all..

His shooting

You can see his Heldrake... all dressed up and no place to go.

He shot up my two wolf guard squads, but had limited firepower remaining.

Turn 3:

Once my LR moved into position to flame his remaining troop the Traitors broke, realizing that the full brunt of the wolves had yet to depart thier transports. CONCEDED!

Impressions:

This game turned upside down when i seized the initiative. First turn is so important in this game. That wasn't my only luck, with so many live objectives in the first turn I was going to get a few points at least. I had built a list to combat his hordes, but I guessed wrong, I'm glad this mistake didn't get exposed. Flamers are cheap and a decent option in a lot of circumstances. I also busted out a WBpack leader with a HF for first time, but I didn't need him fortunately.

I am happy so far with objective secured razorbacks, i feel confident about holding the point with these units and they are versatile.

I love my combi teams, especially the plasma with a WP, the re rolls of one seem extra valuable in this case due to 'gets hot' and the str of Plas.

First game ever with Arjac! He out performed expectations. His unit's offensive power can't be questioned, but I'm curious about their durability in non-ideal situations.

I tried out a WGBL for the first time and attached him to some fen wolves, and revealing my first cyber wolf for some ablative wounds. I wanted something that could scoot around the board, and I thought originally I would be hunting obliterators with them.

I played him as my warlord because I'm sort of maintaining a narrative, with Magnus Wolfbourne. He is sort of an outcast within the Vlka Fenryka because of his name. He grew under Ragnar Blackmane's tutelage and had in a strange irony, unique bond with wolves of fenris (there are no wolves on Fenris)

Great battle report, nice to see the Chaos filth get crushed again. Glad Arjac worked so well for you, Foehammer is a beast of a weapon! PS looks like a great paintjob on him too.

Looks like I will be blowing my budget for making combi weapons, you have me firmly sold on them now!!
