MaliGn
Right, so it's been an age since I originally posted some photos of this, but I have been making progress once more, the Apostle Dread is all but done, here are some photos, I just need to decide what to put on the sarcophagus front. I've tried a few things but nothing has quite worked yet, suggestions on a postcard please. So on with some photos: http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa103/welshmalign/Word%20Bearers/WP_20140719_016-1.jpg http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa103/welshmalign/Word%20Bearers/WP_20140719_013-1.jpg http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa103/welshmalign/Word%20Bearers/WP_20140719_011.jpg http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa103/welshmalign/Word%20Bearers/WP_20140719_015-1.jpg http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa103/welshmalign/Word%20Bearers/WP_20140719_008.jpg The general idea is that the incumbent is a former Dark Apostle who blamed himself for the failures of the heresy and after retreating to the eye of terror entered into a penitent crusade with eleven members of his host, many trials and tribulations beset them on the ill-fated voyage and ultimately he had to face the ultimate penance, interred within the sarcophagus of a dreadnought. Anyways, let me know what you think please. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293965-word-bearers-apostle-dreadhelbrute/ Share on other sites

Knight of the Raven
I love that power halberd. Interesting fluff for the apostle too. A Word Bearer who does not blame other for everything is already a rarity, so one who blames himself instead is double rarity. MaliGn
There's quite a convoluted tale of the oddysey penitent voyage and it leads to the way that the rest of the army is formed with a council of acolytes, each with their own traits and styles with whom the new apostle consults, and despatches according to the requirements of the battle. The halberd uses parts from his original crozius that was ruined during the battle that caused his fall. I intend to use it as a power scourge in game. Dark Rage
Very nicely done, like all the freehand writing and the glowing exhaust ports, poor Dark Angel Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/293965-word-bearers-apostle-dreadhelbrute/#findComment-3749891 Share on other sites
MaliGn
Thanks, I should have done an Ultramarine, but I had Dark Angel parts so... Weirdly I think he may be the best painted loyalist marine I've ever painted, not that I've painted many. MaliGn
I've finished the freehand front panel for the time being, I've tried several things including an attempt at recreating a Hieronymous Bosch painting and a tribute to the significant battles that marked the heresy for the Word Bearers, but couldn't get either right. In the end I've gone with an image to capture the spirit of 'The Penitent'. http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa103/welshmalign/Word%20Bearers/WP_20140722_001-1.jpghttp://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa103/welshmalign/Word%20Bearers/WP_20140722_002.jpg It looks better from a distance, but I'm reasonably pleased with it. With this done I think I have finally finished a model that I have been working on intermittently for the last three years! MaliGn
It's made from a selection of the unarmoured bits from the fantasy Vampire Counts skeleton box, and cut up a bit for the crucified pose. I wish GW still made the older style skellies as detailed and characterful as both the VC and Tomb Kings are, their use is limited by the details, which is a shame.
