Space Hulk board and Blood in the Void

For those individuals who have the Space Hulk board, do you think it would be big enough to play Blood in the Void games, as described in HH: Book 3? If all put together, how large of a gaming area does the board make? (2' by 2', 4' by 4', etc)

Thanks in advance!

I own both space hulk and the Forgeworld Zone Mortalis tiles, and though I have never played a ZM game on the space hulk tiles, I will say that it would be challenging at best, and not fun at all at worst. The space hulk set is far to constrained in my opinion to stand in as a good Zone Mortalis table. Take that as you will, plus there are lots of ways to try it out since space hulk is a 2D setup anyways.

You can easily get a map 4'x4' using the 3rd edition Space Hulk tiles.

There are two challenges. First, the tiles are 2D rather than 3D, so you'll have to exercise judgment and imagination with regard to walls, line of sight, etc. Second, if you use a strict method for determining passage widths, the squares are smaller than the round bases for Terminators, which would limit you to models on 25mm bases. This seems counterintuitive since the Space Hulk game was designed for Terminators. However, the old Terminators came on 25mm bases and Games Workshop preserved the scale of the tiles for 3rd edition despite the increase in Terminator base size. Option 1 is to apply the strict base size requirement (limiting your games considerably). Option 2 is to allow Terminators despite the base size requirement (applying an intent-based method vice a RAW-based method) - perhaps your criteria here might be shoulder width or you might simply say Terminators are okay. Regardless, dreadnoughts and similar models are far too large for the Space Hulk tiles.

To be honest, due to the size limitations of the maps, I recommend using modified Kill Team rules in addition to the other rules that you are using. The changes would be in allowing 2+ armour saves as well as increasing the points value of the army. You can even ignore leaders and specialists if you want, simply using individual models as units. You don't have to do this, but it gives a better approximation of Space Hulk and will allow you to move around the map more easily.

An interesting option I've considered for a Zone Mortalis/Space Hulk mash up is to use blips for both sides. Each blip defines a single specific model in your army. Use the standard blip rules from Space Hulk, except that blips can move into LOS of enemy models. It would create a degree of suspense in the game. I'll be applying this to the Indomitus and Wrath of Angels projects, but figured I'd let you know about it in case you want to try it out.

Would there be anyway of mixing the victory is vengeance rules with zone mortalis and using the space hulk tiles?

Absolutely, as above.

Not having Space Hulk tiles per se, I have been using a number of similarly styled print out versions while I dream about plan on building my own battle board. You can pretty much design them as big as you want.

wow that's a great idea. where did you get the designs?

I'm with that - would be ace to know as (for the time being at least) I can't afford the ZM boards and don't have the skills, time nor money to fund a homemade version.

Sorry I missed the responses to this thread.

I found the above pattern just surfing 'round the webways. I obtained a few others from an online RPG store that had deck plans for starships, etc. They were only a few $$ but print out nicely.  A little photoshop to the designs allow you to customize as you like.
