If they are a thing, maybe lesser Rune Priests?

The Skalds are the Rune Priests in training.

Also, for those following the rumors, don't forget to go up and weigh in with your guesses in the Bet Thread, before I have to lock it down: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/292139-ispace-wolves-7th-edition-codex-bet-threadi/page-2

I am going to say a space wolf variant of a Centurion . That makes sense to me and it is something we don't have at the moment

After looking at the Centurion models, I'd rather have a Terminator heavy weapon squad. I like the stat line and load out of Centurion but not the look. Clunky mini dreadnoughts, thought Terminators were supposed to be the light dreadnouts?

They were, but you see Terminators already existed, so GW needed to make up a new thing to flog for £50 a pop.

TDA kits with duel heavy weapons per model would have done the same and looked better. Of course they would need a Stat bump to show there superior to power armour, the 2+ 5++ doesn't quite do it for me. I've heard some suggest toughness 5 or a 2nd wound, both and you have a centurian

Shhhh, don't you know GW is allergic to logic? You'll scare them away and we'll never get a new dex (for better or worse) tongue.png .

Rune warriors are probably some kind of take on sternguard/ vanguard veterans.

Another theory is that these will be runic armor variants on centurions. Which would be totally lmao. Assault cents might actually viable in the hands of space wolves. Well color me purple and call me Barney

Runic warriors = Honour Guard with special DTW rules? Not quite what I want, but I'll take whatever I can get if it looks good and fairly useable to win games. Won't say no to 2+ armour marines that can sweeping advance and have free power weapons.

Hopefully, honorguard but only for Rune Priests.

Wolf lords have wolf guard, and it would be an uncomfortable injection into the fluff, I think, to give them another layer of promotion.

I dunno, the option to actually have a Honour Guard equivalent would be nice. DA get Deathwing Knights, BAs get Sanguinary Guard and SMs get Honur Guard in addition to their veteran troop types. Why should we be left out?

i feel like the wolf guard are in fact this unit. They gain benefit by having huge customizability, as well they can be used as troops. These things make them a strong choice for which i don't need to make the the case to you guys... just saying i feel we are covered in this department. 2+ saves are not all they are cracked up to be. They are typically to expensive to be implemented in most armies.

PS: Rune warriors have the potential to be something really cool, and i for one need something really cool in my wolves army. I have a BT list I play much more frequently, It has some legion of the damned and a Knight... I realize both of these things can fit into a wolves list... it just doesn't have the same appeal.

I'm with Slipp, here. The Wolf Guard are the literal pack-mates of the Wolf Lord, so they'd better not mess with that. However, there is definitely room in the fluff for new units, especially when it comes to a possible retinue for Rune Priests, or even a small Brotherhood of Psychers unit of Skalds (Rune Priest trainees). If the rumored Rune Warriors are either of these, I'd be more than satisfied.

I can't remember where i heard it from.. but someone got their stormclaw set early and did a points break down of the units.

Apparently GH go up a point and might have lost the BG/CCW/BP combo.. Person didn't know if there was a +1 ppm. 16 ppm now. Assuming special weapons were same price.

BC were calculated to be 14pts ppm. BS3 WS3.

The Wolfguard termis, were thankfully calculated to be 46( or 48)ppm, so a price slash..ish i think :x

This would go a long way to bringing the Wolves into line with other Marine armies' relatively pitiful Troop choices.  Doesn't mean they should/would suck as bad as a Tactical Squad, but there are only so many gubbins you can give Hunters before it gets silly.  At least True Grit originally had a down side.  The other bonuses like Acute Senses and Counterattack are just the same as Chapter Tactics, though.

I'd be surprised if this was entirely true though.  I'd bet on either no change, or making the extra weapon cost a pittance, like +1 point per Hunter.

I am curious what these Rune fellas may be, though.  Hopefully psycher witchery of some sort (yay Adamantium Will ;) ).  It seems more likely to be an honor guard of some sort, though.  Psycher covens feel too Eldary.

I like the idea of a runic coven of worn gnarled warriors to accompany your HQ of any kind. I do think a possible psychic group should join in with a Rune Priest, but maybe I am a little biased...
