I'm not really familiar with how Raven Guard play but I assume you'll be infiltrating and scouting as many units as you can forward right?

How many of the units in your list are Deep Striking? Having Nuncio-Voxii for unscatterable DSing withing 6" would help A LOT especially if the above is true.

Have you considered Strike Captain Alvarex Maun? He might be the HQ you're looking for since his Strato-vox is a supercharged nuncio with 18" range, among other juicy benefits.

I assume Dark Furies are in the Storm Eagle? If so, no problem there.

Any Special Weapon on the Jet Bikes?

I'd still take Vexilla's on the Tac blobs since seeing them run off the table for whatever reason would be very painful to watch. Minimizing the chances of that happening is always a good thing. And if you decide not to take Alvarex Maun, refer to sentence/query #2.

With the amount of Infra Visors, pray for night fight and no blind causing weapons/equipment. Especially since they're on your juicy units. Consider maybe dropping them for more upgrades.

Tartaros is indeed Free upgrade. What I'd like to know is how you plan on using them? You have your Preator and Dark Furies (i assume together in the Storm Eagle) and Nex will very much be in-your-face units while the rest seems to be long ranged fire support. What they have on your terminators is mobility (except for Nex but he can get in close from the get-go) while they'll be footslogging it after deployment - which is why you equipped them with an AC and decided to keep Combi's on the rest but the Sarge. For terminators this makes (imo) for a very Middling loadout. Not great in CC but not bad at it either, same with shooting. with how the rest of your list seems to be set up I think you'd benefit from their use more if you specialized them.

That's all I've got. Its a quite nice and Fluffy list and I've also been considering RG, Sallies and AL as other projects once I'm satisfied with my IF's so this is a nice learning experience for me too tongue.png

Thanks for the reply :)

Erm, I haven't actually really thought about how I'm gonna play the list. I just kinda put fluffy units together and then juggled the points a bit. I haven't played at all yet so I'm not very good a thinking how things will work on the table, that's why forums like this are a god send to me ;)

I wasn't deep striking any, because I didn't know I could without drop pods, and by the time I thought of that I didn't have the points, but I can change that. I don't have any of the FW books yet so all this was done on Battlescribe.

Would I swap Alvarex Maun for the Moritat guy? I need the praetor don't i, for the RoW, if I'm gonna use it.

There were no special weapons on the jetbikes, they were the last thing I added to fill the points haha.

To be honest, the terminators were purely in there because i saw the FW poster thing with all the Istvaan legion terminator plates on and there was the RG in Tartaros armour painted like stealth black and it looked freaking awesome. So again, I didn't really think about how I was going to use them. I don't really know what I'm doing, I pretty much rely on people like you when building my lists ;)

Haha, RG are one of 4 legions I'm doing... RG with (later) some IF allies, and IW with AL allies.

Thanks for your help, sorry for not thinking it through and relying on you guys...

For the Rite of War any unit with Master of the Legion lets you choose them. In this case Alvarex has the rules, as do all Primarchs I believe. Generally, if the character is a Captain or other High Ranker, they'll usually have MoL. So if you have the points you could keep both but drop the Preator?

Don't worry if you're just making lists out of thin air just for fluff, it's fine really and in the end helps you hone in on what you'll likely be playing/spending CASHDOLLAHS on in the Forgeworld store. Might as well make it models you're likely to use right tongue.png?

While I like the counter-intuitive-ness of the Stealth Termies and wouldn't blame you if you bought a bunch of them just because they look cool *glances at display cabinet, sighs at ~30 terminators*, Maybe cut them out and use the points free'd up to bulk up the existing squads you have? If you decide not to drop the Preator, with the points left over you could round him out a bit more so that he brings more to the table when rolling with the Dark Furies.

Deepstriking isn't limited to Drop Pods. If the unit can take a Darkwing Storm Eagle as a transport they could start in that and DS in that way. And since you do and can with the Dark Furies, you're sorted because they're the only CC only unit in the list which makes them vulnerable, so starting in reserves might be a good idea.

Also consider making the Contemptor a Mortis to provide with anit-armor / anti-flyer and maybe gearing your Jet bikes as such or getting more AAr and AAir support since at 2.5k most people (me included, check out my IF 3k list as well as the other high-end pointed lists) tend to bring more/ a lot of armor.

With the sheer amount of snipers you've got I think you'll be fine in dealing with IC's or other VIPs, the RoW you chose being its specialty after all!

Since your Mor Deythan are snipers and as such will generally be away from tanks and other vehicles, those melta bombs might not be worth it, removing them would free up some points to spend elsewhere.

P.S What kind of a community would we be if you couldn't properly rely on us to keep you on the right path / road to victory? Don't worry about it, it's all part of the learning process. Its why we have the tactica section. Which coincidentally has a Decapitation Strike Thread!

P.p.s might get in trouble for this : but if you can't afford the books quite yet but want to get the low-down on the rules...you could..acquire a less-than-legal digital version to tide you over on rules dilemmas until you actually get enough $$$ to actually buy the books - since if we dont support FW properly they might stop making such awesome content for us!

OK! Sorry quick correction here: Darkwing Storm Eagle is a Dedi Transport for Tac Vets, Terminators and Mor Deythan. So consider making a Mor Deythan squad with Combi-Bolters and using Counter Attack you get when disembarking to really bring the pain.

Dark Furies can deep strike on their own since they're jump pack Infantry.

For Heavy Support : Maybe a Fire Raptor? with Alvarex deep striking units coming in when needed is more reliable.

Also conside Javelins for Anti-tank or Rapier Batteries. Maybe even Anti Tank equipped Storm Eagles or more Darkwing's.

The RoW seems to want you to mostly take flier units for your armor. So with those juicy options why not go for it? Cutting the Contemptor, Terminators, and Jetbikes nets you 570 points you can use to bring in another DW-SA, anti tank Storm Eagle or a Fire Raptor. Maybe even two of the three.

Instead of Recon Marines, also look up Veteran Tactical Squads. They have decent options and might be able to out perform the Recons especially if you want to fit in a 2nd Darkwing  without it taking up another Fast attack slot, that, with this RoW is very much contested. Though your elite slots can help you out a lot in this regard with : Previously mentioned Contemptor-Mortis' and Rapier batteries.

Just some Ideas.

Thanks for the help :) much appreciated. I've tried to take some on board and come up with a new list;

Strike Captain Alvarex Maun [145]

Cameleoline

Decapitation Strike

Moritat Prime Kaedes Nex [155]

3x

Legion Tactical Squad [260]

20 man

Vexilla

[780]

Mor Deythan Strike Squad [580]

10 men

10 combi weapons

Darkwing Storm Eagle

Extra Armour

Dark Fury Assault Squad [330]

10 men

Darkwing Storm Eagle [285]

Extra Armour

Fire Raptor Gunship [230]

Armoured Ceramite

Reaper Autocannon battery

2500

Is this looking any better? Thanks again.

While your other list was more over the place with unit selection, Decapitation Strike lets you essentially play two ways : in your face sudden assault or Sudden Character Assassination with sniper units.

This list (which in hindsight I think I subconciously gravitated towards) is the former. Very in your face with a lot of fast movers. With 3 20 man squads you've got plenty to hold the middle of the board or to alpha strike with since you get infiltrate with the RoW.

The Dark Furies, while overcosted by some standards, are going to be doing good work getting in taking out CC units or Command Squads and leaving before they die.

The Mor Deythan, depending on what you use as a combi attachment, if at all, since you could make them storm bolters, plasma, melta, flamer or grenade launcher (not really recommended but could be situationally useful) lets you really tailor them to the specific units you want them to go after. Know your enemies prefers TEQs? Take Combi-Plasmas. Ork/tyranid player that likes horde units? Flamers it is. Lost of tanks or vulnerable armor units? Melta it is. Etc.

The 3 fliers your list brings in are also really good. If you can somehow squeeze in Power of the Machine Spirit on the Fire Raptor, it would let you shoot the Avenger Bolt Cannon, have the 2 auto cannons independently shoot side armor (or maybe even back) on vehicles and have the Missiles go off onto another target.

They also let you deal with any flyer threat you might encounter which is a nice bonus on top of being good anti-tank units.

All in all, a nice list that fits the RG fluff while being able to deal with most problems you'll encounter at 2.5k.

Though a second pair of eyes to look things over will always be appreciated since its always good to get a second opinion tongue.png

Thanks for your help :) I pretty much wanted a fluffy but decent list so I know what I'm gonna start buying, and it looks like this works for that! I'll see what anyone else says, like you say, but again, thanks. Gonna save this thread for the little tactical tips you've given me :)
